The front on the older truck should be a Dana 44.

My advice, if you're going to rebuild a 5.8 for your truck is to start with a roller block out of a 93 & up truck. It's an extra 30 or so horsepower.

Keep in mind that the straight 44 out of the truck is probably a 5 lug isn't it? You've got 8 lug wheels on your 3/4 ton.

If it's one of the more desirable solid Dana 44's and you want it, then you *might* be able to swap your spindles and/or rotors over and keep the 8 lug pattern. A dana 44 is a dana 44, after all.

Just saying. :D

Don't know about your area, but a junkyard engine goes for about $100 here.

Ahh.. junkyard shopping is the best.. isn't it? I was roaming around my local yard here last weekend looking for a few bits for the Ranger, and I spot a late '80s T-bird. I go over and pop the hood and it's got a V8 in it minus the upper intake. I closed the hood and started to walk away when it dawned on my... wait a minute that might be a roller motor. Back I go, pull off a valve cover, rocker arm, and pull out a pushrod.. it measures 6.25". Sure enough I can see the dogbones down the lifter hole. Long story short I get the whole roller lifter assembly for $75, and when I get home I discover the bosses in the 5.0 block I have are drilled and tapped already.YelloThumbUp So.. I have the Comp Cams 35-349-8 ordered for it and this motor is going in my truck while I put the deep breathing top end on the 5.8. Ain't summer great.
