Water in fuel 2004 f-350 6.0

This vehicle is a Type 1 ambulance and has bout 70,000 miles on it.

Filled it up Monday night with about 10 gals of Diesel fuel. Drove it back a tenth of a mile and parked it. Four hours later started it up to make a run and we idled it for about 2 minutes and pulled out. Got about 2 yards and vehicle started missing. Engine quit and we drifted over to the side of the road. Could not get it started. Placed on roll-back and taken to Ford dealer. The next morning I got a call from dealer and he said water in fuel. Looked like milk when fuel pump removed. Have not drained fuel tank yet.

Estimated cost $4,000 in parts and $1,000+ labor just to try to get it to start. There are many engine error codes. Is this typical?

To completely flush out and clean the fuel system. Then replace any damaged components, yep, about right.

Thanks for confirmation.

Fuel storage tank was filled by dealer Monday morning and our vehicle was only one filled from the tank that evening. Fuel Dealer was called Tuesday morning and they found only a half inch of water in bottom of tank and drew that off.

They are going by Ford dealer and pick up sample of contaimated fuel found in vehicle tank.

Not sure where this is headed.

If there's no leaks in the fuel cap on the storage tank, you might be able to get the fuel supplier to pay for the damages.
