want to make truck louder

Hello! I have a buddy who has a 94 f150 5.0 2wd pretty close to mine except with fewer problem, and he is wanting to get rid of his stock muffler but he does not want it to be really loud. He wants it more of a grumble or growl, nothing crazy. Anybody have any ideas on what kind of MUFFLER he could put on it to give him the sound that he wants? Thank you!

I'd suggest going to the muffler manufacturer websites and just listening to sound clips. Hop on youtube and search Ford Truck exhaust, etc. I prefer CherryBomb's exhaust line up. Magnaflow, flowmaster, borla, etc etc.

The flowmaster 50 series is a good sounding, tame muffler.

I agree, FlowMaster is a good sounding muffler, I have the 40 series and I am very pleased with the sound.

I like Flowmaster as well. I go with a 40 series. But thats just me. they all sound good.

One other thing. Do any of the flowmasters make it crackle? He does not want it to crackle when he gets on it.

Non of the flowmaster I know of make a crackling sound. I hate that as well.
They are a deep sounding muffler make it sound like its got some cam and more Cubes under the hood.

The 40 series is a lot louder than the 50 series. Seriously, if you want something more tame, the 50 series is for you. They sound similar, but the 50 is quieter and the interior resonance is lower.

Is there any other mufflers that would provide the same sound without the crackling that are cheaper than the flowmasters?

Thrush? (never had them on a truck, so no idea how they sound or last)
Flowmaster was the best I found for the money I wanted to spend. And have the best sound!! Corsa, Borla, are great mufflers but waaay more expensive.

Okay. What about magnaflows or cherry bombs? Anybody have any idea on those and how they sound on old trucks like my friends?

Cherry Bombs would be to loud for what you had mentioned in first post. Magnaflows are good, but the sound isn't as nice for these older trucks as the Flowmaster, JMO

Cherry bomb or other fiberglass mufflers won't be the volume you desire, but they sound great.
