Hydro assist is perfectly fine because if the "hydro" fails you still have steering control. If Full hydro fails than so does the control of steering. I'd love to have full hydro steering, but not at the expense of a belt flying off and not having control of steering. If there was a backup somehow, than I'd really go the route of full hydro.

^^^ I'm thinking that having a quality rebuild for the power assist setup will work just fine and actually might be better than the 78/79 steering. Most people dog the system because things have gotten loose and leaking. But, when working properly, the power assist will turn anything you give it. Let us know how everything turns out.

Agreed 100% Buck. Folks see leaking/loose parts and they junk them without fully understanding it. I figure they lasted 30 years, can't be too bad, even the 78/9 stuff has to wear out some time. I think the biggest draw backs to the system is the amount of heat generated and cost of the system. And in comparison to the 78/9 system, I just don't think it is quite as responsive. So I'm not entirely sure it's as good as the 78/9 system, but it will definitely accomplish and do what I need it to.

full hydro is a no go in all 50 states, as far as i know hydro assist is legal, and is basically home grown power steering, so i dont see why it wouldnt be legal...

NC has been implementing alot of funky vehicle laws recently, and I know there was a big hoopla over modifying steering componentry. So I'm not entirely sure on this matter.
