U-joint Knockin

I was comin back from the trails yesterday and I noticed that a u-joint on my front driveshaft was startin to Knock, reckon how long a joint will last after it starts a knockin? I pulled the driveshaft out but none of the joints had slack, but one did have an alamite that was missin (no tellin how long its been since its been greased)

If it's squeaking or knocking you have a ticking time bomb with no clock to tell you exactly when it's going to fall apart the rest of the way.

I had one go from hardly any play and thinking I had a couple thousand miles left in it to the next day not being able to get over 10-15mph for fear of slinging a driveshaft out.


A couple questions, how exactly did you go about checking for play?

and

Happen to have CV joints on the end of those shafts?

I twisted and push-pulled on the joint just to see if it had any play

Was the vehicle in neutral and on jack stands??????? If not, you'll probably yield different results.


And what about the CV's/double cardan joints? You got em?

Yep

Yes it does have cv joints on the shaft, and I pulled the driveshaft out to check the joints for slack
