True dual exhaust

Well, time to get rid of the factory single exhaust and replace with true dual. I decided to have it exit in front of both rear wheels with a slight angled turn down. What do you think ? Truck has the 351 Windsor with no emissions. Got a price of around $550.00 depending on what mufflers I choose. Just a straight run from the manifolds this way. I'll get some pics. smilieFordlogo

Sounds good to me. You will like duals alot better, although it seems kinda exprensive @$550, but thats just me. I normally buy my own mufflers and take them to the shop, it's alot cheaper to do it that way. Exhaust shops seem to charge alot more than parts stores or online for mufflers.

What size you running,2 in? 2 1/4 inch? What kinda mufflers? Glasspacks? Flowmaster?

I'm stuck with a straight pipe on my 78, no duals lol.

$500 and higher was the going rate around here for a long time. One place I worked at we wouldn't do any complete custom exhaust jobs like that under that price because it wasn't worth the amount of time put into doing it the right way. I've fixed many exhausts for people that thought they were getting a good deal with those $250 specials. Also depends on the area you are in.

Ya, $200/$250 seems to be the rate around here for duals. excluding mufflers. But, like I said you can find mufflers pretty cheap if ya look.

Nice. But $500 sounds a tad high for just going into muffles off of the manis. Are you going with a x or h pipe?

I tend to agree Sean, I priced it here for my truck with aluminized pipes and it was damn near $1000.

Wow now that sounds expenisve. We were doing full stainless with mufflers for around $1,000.

I shopped it at a few shops with good reputations for custom work, the pipes were also being mandrel bent so no crushing. And remember, I live in the country of being terminally hosed, so anything is going to be 20-40% more than down there.

Well with mandrel bending then I would have to say it might be worth the extra money. Most places here don't do mandrel bending including the ones I've worked at.

Also..all the welds were going to be TIG'd. There is still a chance of going stainless...that will be decided at a later date.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input !! I will not be having a x pipe, just straight off each manifold and a straight run to the mufflers, then mandrel bends at the rear tires. Gets to expensive for me any other way. Should still be a nice exhaust for the old truck. Really looking forward to both sound and performance gains. Will be using flowmasters. Pipes will be 2 1/4 diameter. smilieFordlogo

If your truck has the front fuel tank, running the pipes out in front of both back tires isn`t going to work out so well.

Ive got mandrel bent duals on my truck, heck the only part that hung down below the frame rails was parts of the glasspack casing and that was it.

I paid the guy 200 bucks and since he did a bang up job and it was so cheap i left him a hefty tip.

That was from collectors back had to run the pipes to the passenger side because of the front tank...

It's a little tricky I've heard, might go to the outside of the frame rails, then I'll miss the front tank. Otherwise it will be hanging down low to miss the tank. I could run on the passenger side, then over. Going to do it myself now since all the quotes were to high for just a straight run off the manifolds. Didn't think a professional shop would have any problems, WTH.

IT'S DONE!!! Found a really good muffler shop in town. Cost $600.00 but sure worth getting it professionally done. Looks and sounds AWESOME. It's raining today but will post pics soon. They went on the inside rails and exits at the front of the rear tires on slight angle down. Did I mention I'm really happy. My truck finally has true duals, and it does make a difference. smiliegitrdone

Awesome. Looking forward to the pictures. Sometimes if you pay a little more you wind up with better results in the end.

Cool stuff, glad it came out the way you wanted. Looking forward to the pics!

Since a crossover pipe is usually recommended, why not use a single 3"
exhaust pipe?

A fully separated dual exhaust sounds cool, but if it ain't fully separated,
what's the point?

Looks? :/
"cool factor"? ;)

If it's for looks, paint the inside of a short piece of pipe the same color as
the inside of your -real-exhaust pipe and hang it under the vehicle. LOL :)

Dumber than you thought in AZ
