trash in your trucks

What do you guys do about trash in your pickups? Just the little detritus that you end up with in the cab of the truck- empty coffee cups, old directions, receipts...all that jazz.

I've used the "toss it on the floorboards" approach for years, and more recently tried looping a plastic grocery bag over the gearshift...but neither is entirely satisfactory.

Any suggestions?

*Suggestions beyond the obvious, I guess. Yeah, I know I should just take it all out every night when I get home...or whenever I fill the gas tank. But I also know I won't. On long drives, I only toss the empties when I run out of cupholders.

I'm pretty good about keeping my personal truck clean of rubbish. My work truck is another story. Lately I've been keeping an extra 5 gallon bucket in the bed and have been using it for a trash bin. It seems to help, although sometimes I don't pay attention and throw trash in one of my tool buckets.

On Friday, my boss had to ask "Can I step on this?" when we went out for coffee and he was getting into the passenger seat of my '97...

As I was cleaning it out today, I looked closer at what it was he'd stepped on, and realized they're directions that have been in that truck since January '09.

When that truck was the only thing I drove, I reached a kind of equilibrium level of mess...but what I've since realized is that I used to empty it out after long drives when there'd be a heap of coffee cups on the floorboards- and I never drive it far enough for that to happen anymore. :(

I use a plastic grocery bag looped over the cupholder/ashtray/change holder the slides out and empty every time I fill up. Or try to toss it out the window and get it in the bed.
The bag on the gearshift worked OK, but it seemed once a week or so my work laptop would slide onto it and I couldn't shift to first or second.

Man I've been haggling with this problem for years. I am not organized enough to get myself a bag but I'm not messy enough to let it pile up either. Some kind of trigger event will eventually guilt me into cleaning it up. Most recently that was a water bottle my dad left in there that managed to roll back and forth on the floor board that made an irritating 'thump' every time I turned. I just clean it out before it gets out of hand.

I take all of my stuff out daily, since I don't have a crew or extended cab. It just gets in the way if I don't.

I used to religiously wash my truck every Friday and that's when it got cleaned out, now a days. I clean it when it gets to the point I notice its dirty.

Sunday is wash day around here. Every first Sunday is a full detail. What can I say, I'm anal!

A few of you have been in my cars, so you know the answer to this. No trash- ever, period. Get's cleaned out when I leave the car. Get's washed and vacuumed once a week, rain or shine. Truck was the same way. My son did not inherit this neat gene (or OCD gene, depending on how you look at it). I swear he could farm straight from the carpets.:headbang:

I use a plastic bag in the SHO and the Yota, and I change it out once a week, usually Sunday as the trash gets picked up Monday.

I used to be pretty good about bouncing cans off the roof and into the bed of the truck even when moving, now I just open the slider...

NOTHING gets put in my floorboards. If i drink anything, it stays in cupholder until i get home in which case it gets thrown out immediatly! I guess thats why my 06' carpet and all still looks like 2010 carpet

Seeing as there is no eating or drinking in my rigs, this isn't a problem.

I stopped for a full 30 seconds on my way out to the new truck the first morning I had it, debating whether or not to put my coffee cup back in the kitchen.

I didn't. Coffee and driving go together in my world, and I'll live with the stained carpet if that's what it takes (though I do try to avoid it).

Coffee cup goes everywhere with me. Spray glass cleaner (I buy mine at Costco) removes any stains immediately.

I'm pretty picky about my vehicles. The F100 sits, and I don't allow any trash in it.

My Ranger was always clean.I spent like 6 hours cleaning out the inside the first day I got it.

Mom's car.Well,it's kinda different with that.I tend to throw bottles behind the seat and forget them. And everything I pick from the Junkyard goes in the backseat,so it's usually covered in dirt. Then, mom sees it,I get the bickering of my life, clean it out,and then all is good.

All in all,I like to have a sliding window in my trucks so I can just throw trash in the bed with minimal effort.I like my Truck Interiors to be clean.
