Transfer case question

This is my first 4 wheel drive truck of this era so I apologize if my questions seem ridiculous, I try to find the answer before I ask a stupid question. I was trying to track down a vibration and had my transfer case in neutral. I put the transmission in drive and noticed the front drive shaft was spinning. The truck wasn't moving because the front hubs werent locked but I noticed the front driveshaft also spins when in 2wd. Is this normal for these truck or do I have a problem? I have the part time np205.

Whats the oil look like inside the transfer case ? And at what level is it ?
