Tire clearance

Thinking out loud. With a 4" lift, can a 77 f150 4X4 clear 35-14.50-15 size tires? and If so, what if these were boggers?

Yes, with the body. You'll more than likely rub on the radius arms though, especially with Boggers. No big deal.

/agree with Unrulee

On my 78 F250 Supercab (not the current one I have), I put a 4" Rough Country susp. lift and had enough room for 36" TSLs. With another 3" to the body, I had more than enough and could've probably put on some 38s

Well Im not a fan of body lifts, so its going to be all suspension. And from what I hear, 35" is about all you want to put on half ton axles, especially the 9"

The 9" and Dana 44 are stronger than most people give them credit for, for example, Tony is running 40"s on them (though his are rebuilt when he did the build) But generally a solid dana 44 is good for 38's.

The D44 will give out long before the 9".

Oh. I have heard it differently. Well thats good news. I guess my new question would be what is the max tire size i could clear with a 6" lift?

38's depending on how hard you wheel it. The word is that 35's are the usual limit for d44's. With 38's it won't be a question of if it'll break.....but when.

Well im not into beating my turck up, wheeling hard-core, but I do go offroad a little. How much would I be pushing it with 36"? 37"?

The rear 9 in will hold up fine. The 44 front may be hard on axle shafts. The shafts are at their weakest when the tires are turned, so if you have to hammer on it, try to keep the wheels straight.

If you're gentle and don't punch it while turning, it may last. If it doesn't there are upgrades a plenty for them (D44).

Ok that answered my question. I don't plan on more than about 35 or so, bt now i know what it takes to go more

I wouldn't put too much improvement into a D44 - for the money, I'd throw down for a D60 ;)

I WAS going to say that, but there's a whole 'nother can of worms there, especially for a 1/2 ton.

8-lug wheels come to mind for one. The rear bolt pattern won't match. He's probably running 15" tires, those will have to go, he'll need at least 16" wheels to clear the 60's brakes. So at least 2 new wheels and tires will have to be purchased. Even then the rear end will still have the 5-lug 9"er. So what do you carry for a spare? and how do you rotate tires? Nope, go find a nice beefy D70, or (God forbid smilietease) 14 bolt to swap into the rear and buy 4 new wheels and tires.

....................................................you gotta love this slippery slope stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

My advice, if your not going over 35"ers and don't have to heavy of a foot, a 44 will last (mine has). I am eyeballing a D60 though. But since my truck is a 250, wheel's and tires aren't an issue.

I was actually about to say the same thing. If Im gunna upgrade, I might as well get a 3/4 ton. naw ill probably just stick with the d44/9" combo, go with 35 or 36 and drive easy

Probably the way to go and you'll have plenty of fun with it...

Lest we forget the fact that every Dana 60 is leaf sprung and your F150 is o coils...

I thought of stating that but, I figured the wheel and tire thing was a good enough reason to reconsider.
