I understand their frustration, but still, it's not going to happen.

I must be missing something.

I already take my vehicles wherever I want to for repairs.

Essentially, the newer vehicles with all of the computer controls, they want access to all information and tools that are only available to dealers. Including hotline access.

I know of a small shop that had to close because of the cost of the stuff to test and work on newer vehicles.

This is the main reason why in our shop we mostly do older vehicles and also why i'm pitching more towards tyre/vehicle sales and sticking to basic servicing ...... out here we have vehicles from all corners of the globe being sold and you need to have at least three different versions of diagnostic gear - luckily most of the shops in my area get along and they have different diagnostic readers ( the local auto sparky just brought a handheld snapon which cost nearly $7k) and are willing to share but it still doesn't help with the latest vehicles like Vince has pointed out.

^^^^ Unfortunatly the service station i worked at fell victim to this....and it was a pretty prominant business with a great deal of clientel..he did not want the major expense to reoutfit the equipment simply put,It is now a convienant store that sells fuel...Now with that said, ive have forseen this coming for many yrs now,it is also why i changed carreers when i did, constant schooling is another issue living in the real world..I guess dear ol dad was right he wanted me to be a machinest..although im not complaning..Vehicles are going to continue to evolve weather we like it or not..Government has set the mandates, the Automakers must abide by them..its not going to change and the little man's shop along with the consumer looses so sad....Tamper proof vehicles will soon be here..Mark my word on that.
