I think Ford is convinced that the compact truck segment is dying, but with fuel prices sustaining high prices for the last 4-5 years, I think they're missing an opportunity.
I want the Rangers back. I asked several Ford dealers if they have many people asking about the Rangers. They replied they get loads of requests for Rangers and have no clue why Ford discontinued them because they have lost many sales to the Chebby Colorado.
The sales issue here is that the F-150 can achieve close to the same fuel economy at about the same price as the Ranger (in work truck form), so the argument is you can get the same package, but bigger.
That said, I love love love the new Ranger and wouldn't mind it one bit on these shores.
