I had a '69 Grand Prix that I dearly loved, and it got T-boned late one night. Big 'ole tank probably saved my life, but I bought a new '74 Vega GT Hatchback. Damn, what a POS. One year (and two engines) later, I sold it for $600 and bought a mint '69 Malibu Coupe with 26K miles on the clock from the g/f's mother. She bought a new Audi- I think I got the better part of that deal.

smilieIagree They missed one important car on Detroit's road to wreckage- the Chevy Vega. Not only was the car an unmitigated POS, but with Chevy's marketing muscle they were able to sell millions of them. In this case, it would have been better if the car had been saleproof.

Truthfully, Detroit has done more to further Japanese market share than they could have ever done on their own.

Pssssst......post #11 :wavey:

I had one a '74. in '75 they started making them with steel sleeves in the cylinders.

I don't think so......the 2.5L Pontiac motor was iron but the Vega always had the Nickelcel(sp?) coated aluminum cylinders.

There was a modification to the cooling passages which kept the motor from ovaling its cylinders due to overheating. It was called the durabilt or sumpin' like that. That was around '75-'76 and GM upped the warranty because of the past rep........but they still rotted out easily and were a horrible car.
