The 9"

When it came to trucks and Bronco's, were all the 9" rears 31 spline? I know there was a 28 spline for cars, but I didn't know if that was ONLY cars. If that's not the case, I seem to remember reading there were a couple identifying characteristics on the hub...factual? Or simply count splines. Buddy of mine has a killer deal on Detroit locker, 31 spline, and I thought about picking it up for the time being.

Not sure about the years, but there are trucks with 28 spline 9"ers, probably just the previous generation though. The my 72 F100 had a 28 spline 9". I sold it to a Jeep guy.

No need to count .....28 Spline axles are tapered at the end where the splines are
31 spline don't have a taper to them.

There were both 28 and 31 spline 9" available.

This is one reason the axle ID Tag needs to always be attached to the pumpkin.You can tell what it is by the characters on the tag

Thanks Dennis...to be quite honest, I've never even looked for the tag on this axle.
