Tapping sound from exhaust

Ok. I have a 90 model 250 with 7.3 idi. Motor idles pretty smooth. Doesnt sound odd or anything. Runs smooth. But when it sets idling there is a tapping sound coming from exhaust. You cant hear it under the hood. Only from out the exhaust. The injector pump has been turned up and it has a glass pack exhuast and what appears to be a chambered exhuast tip. Could that be whats causing the tapping or could it be an injector?

You wouldn't hear an injector from the exhaust.

Diesels just tick a lot. It's probably just exhaust valve noise.

Do you think your noise sounds like a problem?

OK, This is just a guess, but on a 7.3 #8 injector is different from the rest. If the wrong one is in there, it can make a "rattle". Has there been any changes involving injectors recently?

In my own world
IDI are all the same
You probably have a blown or soon to be blown exhaust gasket between the head and the exhaust manifold

In the "old days" we took the exhaust gaskets from between the heads and manifolds, had the manifolds plained to true flat, and installed the manifolds with no gasket.

You could also have a stress or heat crack in the exhaust manifold(s)

Another thing is to check your catalytic and adjacent hangers/clamps. I had an issue with my catalytic rattling that you could hear when idling in drive only.
