Talk to me about the early 6.0

I am calling on a 03 6.0 in the AM and before I make the trip to OK for the trade (if they still have the truck) I want to know if there is any tell tale signs of the issues on these trucks.

Here is the truck. Something about it just keeps bringing me back to it. I know it needs some interior work, but I am trying to get it on a title for title trade on the F150...

Here is the little that I know. Our Subcontractor bought a 2003 6.0 new and has it as of now.
Unit has (I think) 200k miles. It gets him around 17 mpg (imp).
The first couple of years were plagued with ongoing update flashes.
Last year EGR went..$3k fix.
He loves the truck, runs a sled deck.
I'm thinking if it is a stock truck (no piggyback) and the Oasis is good then it should be a sound truck.

I am going to call them in the AM. If they still have it, then I will have an oasis run. Neighbor down the hill just had his excursion done, and it cost him about $2500, but got new head studs, EGR delete kit, and a few other mods. This truck looks stock from what I can tell.

Sounds like half the injectors have already been replaced. I may only need to do the EGR delete and Head studs.

The price sounds too good to be true lol. Around here gas trucks with almost that mileage are going for around that price.

So a new set of hybrid injectors, black onix head gaskets, head studs and egr deleat should be good to go! Sounds like fun....

Take it for what its worth, 03 MY was the best 6.0 built. Many never were touched. I had a company truck that had over 200k on it without a single injector replaced.

i will say this...

the only reason you hear so many bad things about the 6.0's, is they at the time were the MOST produced diesel engine in almost any class..

the percentage of issues compared to actual engines out there, is pretty comparable to any other engine..
