Tailgate Trim

What trim should my tailgate have on it? A good bit of the rangers I've seen have had the upper trim piece and the FORD piece. I don't!

Subscribed...Because I've had the same lingering question. Red, being a 12/76 truck, to my understanding, should not have had any of the race track trim at all...but it did. And it had both panels on the tailgate. So I'm with Austin, what trucks were the tailgate panels (the upper black and the FORD) supposed to go on.




And a side question, what trucks did the 'colored' FORD panels go on? Indy trucks? Freewheelers?

I don't have a pic...but the one I saw in person was orange around the letters. I thought some nut job just painted the panel, then (during my eff tee eee days), I remember a couple other folks that had those panels on their trucks, and one guy had it as wall art. And I can't remember if it was on the Freewheelers, Indy trucks or maybe even a color match or something for explorers.

The concept is about right though. My tailgate had that exact set-up. One thing though, is the pain will come off and then it looks terribad.

Then that's all I shoulda had on mine as well, correct. Did the Ford panel get added at the XLT level and the black panel get added at the lariat level?

I have a Ford Panel on mine and it's just a Ranger. But that could be because the tailgate was replaced with a crappy reproduction one that didn't have Ford stamped in it, so I guess they added the panel so it would say Ford lol. I thought Rangers and up got the F O R D Panel???

I believe so.Two of our members had it out one time on this exact subject,but I can't remember if it was here or at eff tee eee.

I'm not saying the two Gens are the same,but I know for the 80-81 trucks(Which still have the Ranger,Ranger XLT,Ranger Lariat designations,the Custom and Ranger had no tailgate trim,the Ranger XLT had a trim panel with a silver strip and bright letters,while the Ranger Lariat had the same tailgate trim panel,only difference being a black strip and possibly different Letters.

My 73 Ranger has upper and lower trim on the tailgate and the FORD panel.
