Meh... Looks like everyone is saying it reduces your payload by several hundred pounds. I'd also be concerned about it being rubber-- it'd probably have to be replaced every few years.

I also discovered the Willy Bar while researching those Sulastic Shackles... It appears to accomplish roughly the same thing but from in a slightly different way-- by adding weigh to the bed. A lot of people put sandbags in the back to make the springs and shocks work harder at absorbing shock-- the Willy Bar is just a really concentrated weight that does the same thing but also allows easy access to the bed while installed. Seems kinda cool.

I can see how this would actually work-- but again, every pound that you add to the bed is 1 pound less that you're able to add later. The upshot to the Willy Bar is that if you want to load up your truck with a lot of weight, it's relatively easy to remove it, while the sulastic springs would require a lot of work to remove and replace.

Trust me I don't mind a rough ride, but what really kills me is that I drive to my mom's place at least once every 2 weeks, sometimes once a week even. The entire way there is the damned washboard freeways and it's enough to literally drive you insane. I don't mind the big bumps and such but I'd love to tone down some of that washboard effect.

I wasn't aiming that at you. That was for all the people who buy trucks that never intend on using them for a truck.


You can tone down the washboard effect alot by just driving stoopid fast. :nana:

Haha yeah well then the washboard effect gets replaced by my truck shaking like it's ready to explode :rofl:

they also have a big waterbag that lies in the bed of your truck and allegedly supports up to 300 lbs of weight. Personally Chris' PP is such a pansy I'm surprised he's yet to install air ride for the bed, cab, and front clips.

Air bags don't help the ride very much unless the truck is loaded... In fact pumping up the bags when unloaded provides for a very stiff ride.

you can simultaneously adjust the air pressures. Lower pressures mean softer ride. Also, it the ride being harsh unless loaded is an issue why are the majority of Tractor trailers air ride equipped? There is no load being placed on the cab? It just essentially allows the frame and drive train move with the terrain without beating the living crap out of the operator.

There's a difference between "air ride" and air bags that you'd put on a pickup truck. Air bags like my brother has on his truck do not replace the springs, they just soften the ride when the springs are loaded. He has them for towing. Yes if he removed his springs and had FULL air ride, then he could air them down to lower pressure and get a nice ride, but there's drawbacks with that too. With his current setup, if he airs them down then the truck just settles all of its weight back onto the leaf springs and he's back to having a stock ride.

Saw it done on and F350 CC....... rides pretty good from what I understand.But, the trouble of doing that is Tony's reply too much of a weeny and wanting the ride of a car and NOT using a truck like a truck.
 
how much of a difference in weight is the willy bar and the extra fuel in a bronco tank? if you want to add weight, can you just spend the $150 and go that route?

heh well the Bronco tank IIRC is around 12 gallons of fuel more. Fuel is more dense than water but will go with the eight pounds per gallon theory thus meaning that the 33 gallon bronco tank holds roughly 264 pounds of fuel...OUCH. Do a few whoop-dee-doo jumps to blow the cylinders out of your shocks making them useless and you've got the ride of a Lincoln!
