ok im really getting ticked off at this right about now... ive got this random misfire/skip/hiccup thing when im driving. it doesn't happen when im idling as far as i know. it happens in almost all the gears(standard) and throttle position is random. now i don't really know where to start at all with this being a random problem. it happens when the truck is hot and probably cold too but i don't pay attention to that aspect like i should have. it also happens on both the front tank and the rear tank of gas. anybody have any ideas? i have replaced the tps sensor(had a spare so i slapped it in)...didn't fix it. i also have checked my vacuum lines and they appear to be all set. (i have the A.I.R. pump and system completely taken out and blocked off(the right way) the only thing i don't have is the vacuum reservoir which rusted through a year ago and im in the process of making one right now. where else should i start from? spark? fuel? computer? wiring?[confused] :headbang:

Had a coil act that way . Also a dizzy go bad about same.

The smarter members will help ya.
Hope u find it .

I know you said you inspected all the vacuum lines, might want to take the time to check them all again, give the small ones a slight bend at random places and make sure there isn't a crack or a rip somewhere. When I first got my truck, it was doing the exact same thing, if it was in gear, got a hiccup/backfire/misfire situation, turned out to be two hoses had been eaten by rodents. Cut and fix, problem (That one at least) is solved.
That's my suggestion. Make sure anything that sucks air is sealed, tubes not cracked, so on and so forth. Even a small one can ruin your day.

I've got a sort of simular problem that happens when it's hot out and the engine is hot. It will die sometimes while driving it restarts easy by just letting the clutch out and then doesn't do it again for a few days. It only happens when it's hot. Weird huh!

Don't forget about your Fuel Filter Travis........check for carbon tracks in your cap and make sure the rotor button is still fresh. How long since you did a tune up?(plugs/wires)????

You all might start by reading the CM codes and see if they tell you anything.

To check your codes go to one of these links below:

This is good for the KOEO test:

This one is good for the KOER test:

OR

If you want to practice reading three digit codes with the CEL (MIL) click on this link and read below the video first:

OR you can buy a code reader for about $30.00 and read them out in digits like this one.

If you had a carb I'd say you have fuel puddleing in the bottom of your manifold, and to rebuild the carb........but I'm guessing you have some form of fuel injection.

everything was replaced last year when i rebuilt the motor. i did a smoke test on the intake and vacuum system and there is no leaks..which is good but doesn't help me...

Just as a suggestion, at night, take a spray bottle with water, and while the engine is running, spray water on the plugs and wires. If you've got a problem, it'll show then.

How about the TFI module and pickup unit in the distributor? Way back in the day when they started failing they would cause it to buck/skip and fart while driving. Just a thought.

I thought about that. it was the first thing I checked(touched it to see if it was hot, it was cool)

I've got a spare one, a wrench, and some heat sink grease in the passenger door pocket incase I need it.
