Starter problem!..

[F 150Cobra]

its a 5.0 Explorer engine with a mustang flywheel.. attached to a M5OD Trans..

the starters looks like they are too short and reach the flywheel .. do i need a longer starer or what?? a mustang starter?? or wth??

how does a mustang starter looks like, will it work??

Like Tony said, you should get a start for your exact application-- a 5.0 with an M5OD transmission.

Jurgen, The starter is the same for the 4.9 and 5.0, but the flywheel should be from a 5.0 truck, 50oz imbalance. That might be the problem!!!

You gotta use the truck flywheel!!!

He's also going to have to get the truck pressure plate!!!

The bolt holes are different!!!

**** **** ****.. i dont wanna take the engine out again!,,,

its the mustang flywheel but the pressure plate did fit on the flywheel.. and it is for an F150 app.

yupp gonna change it this week.. lol..

easier to drop the gearbox and change it then take out the engine to change it right??

btw... tony!.. i need a favor.. can your verify that the flywheel from a F150 1989 5.0 ! is bigger than a mustang 5.0 flywheel?? thanks allot bud

Yup, the more teeth the bigger flywheel. I thought they were either 157 or 164.

every flywheel they have listed for that application is 157.!!

They should be able to help you out. I haven't had any problems with them in the past. It sucks to have to pull the tranny back though.
