squeeking belt!!!!

well its getting on my nerves!!!

Dan told me to soak it in dishwater soap.. i just tried that but i need to let it dry so i can see if it works. but if that doesn't what is another remedy??

I've never used it...so I can't say. Usually when I have a squeaky belt, I just get a different belt...or spray a little WD on it.




OH YEAH...just remembered...I have a couple issues with new belts sqeaking, but due to already having a glazing on the belt for some reason. Take some really gritty toothpaste, rub it on the contact part of the belt and pulley. It's worked every time I tried it.

i think the new bels is out of whack that day the old waterpump broke it kind of eaten it a bid.. im gonna get a newer and 1/2" shorter one monday

Are you using the stock self adjuster still? You have to be 1/2 way in the adjuster slot. If your too far down the belt might not be tight enough.

Don't waste your money on anything but a Gatorback belt. All of my belts were squeaking when I first got my truck. I kept buying high dollar premium Napa belts and no luck. Bought a Gatorback as per someones advice and I never bought another belt again. Best $20 I ever spent.

its like i heard you in my sleep or something didnt saw the post till now.. and this morning i went all out and got a gatorback and NO MORE SQUEEKING!!! best 50$ i ever spent!

I'm with Chris...never had bad luck with Gator Backs. Worth the extra $$.

Climb up on you front bumper and Pee in the crank pulley and tensioner.
Belt dressing was a short term fix back in the day of V-belts.....but not one manufacturer of serpentine belts condone using it. It glazes the pulleys and makes things worse because both sides of serp belts hit the different pulleys.

Yeah, BTDT and it made the friggin belt squeak worse. No kidding.

Bought a new belt but read where the pulleys needed to be cleaned first
etc etc. :/ I figured "let the old belt clean the suckers ".

Squirted the old belt dripping wet (slingin' *** wet when it was running
with spray carburetor cleaner. GF's '96 TBird, so no loss if it caught fire?

Fixed it.

Never replaced the belt, kept the new one as a spare and it was still in the
trunk couple years later when the Ford's-better-idea-plastic-intake-manifold
took the car out permanent.

Went to buy a GatorBack recently from Checker and they are phasing those
out, got a Gates for almost double the money. :/
