Arrogant A-hole At-Large
Hey fellas...spring break is now over, got a good farmer's tan going on...but not from a beach or anything like that...it was from working out in the sun on my true loves...who needs a stinkin beach when you have a dentside right? Anyway, figured I'd summarize what I did over the break, nothing spectacular, but it's definitely satisfying.
Friday March 13:
Sold the Swampers that were gonna go on the Bronco to my brother to go on his Jeep. So I went to Galloway's (local 4wd/tire shop) and I'm pretty good buddies with everyone there and gave me a KILLER deal. They had one set left of the old style 35x12.50x15 BFG M/T's. They looked good so I took them for $475, including mounting and balancing...I was stoked because I never get deals like that. I also picked up a used set of Alcoa polished aluminum wheels that I'll use later for offroad tires. They also had a junked 79 truck, so I salvaged the wood grain interior and possibly found a 460 that will go in a 78 Bronco I might pick up at the beginning of Summer break.
Saturday March 14:
Found the root of the tstat housing leak...more terrible work from the shop that 'fixed' the broken bolt (details of that will come in another thread). But the short of it was, found a welder who could weld cast iron, had him fill both holes, then I redrilled and tapped for 3/8" bolt.
Sunday March 15:
Replaced the standard cooling radiator in the Bronco with an extra cooling Modine radiator (thanks again John). Replaced hoses, brake lines, fuel lines, fuel sending unit and oil sending unit.
Monday March 16:
Didn't believe the oil psi improvement on the stock dummy guage after the oil SU replacement...so I threw on a cheap guage, and sure enough the Bronco is running 25 psi at idle and 48psi at 3000rpm. I put a drop drag link and drop pitman arm from SkyJacker on the Bronco and also new TRE's. I also threw on a SkyJacker dual stabilizer kit on the Bronco
Tuesday March 17:
Replaced any and all fluids/lubes/grease/filters on the Bronco and Red. Rebuilt the steering box on Red...it was leaking terribly, leaks are minimal now, but I think it's time for a new one. Replaced valve cover gaskets on Red and the Bronco. Also replaced upper and lower rad hoses on Red and new P/S lines.
Wednesday March 18:
Took a look at a 78 Bronco, not for sale, but I said I'd give hime $1500 when I get home for the summer, he said he'd take it. The C6 is shot, and has a pretty good running 351M in it...but as stated above, found a good cheap 460 for it. Went and took a look at the 59 250 4x4 with the bumpside cab...looks good, been sitting for a while, so it needs more work than I was anticipating...plus a 59-60 cab. But I figured it was worth it, so I put $100 down on it, and the guy only wants $25 a month til it's paid off. No biggie, coulda bought then and there, just don't have the room at the parents house, and it would just sit there for a while anyways. I also put new window tracks on the rear window of the Bronco. I also decided to say screw it...and threw the 35" spare on the spare tire carrier on the Bronco...there was 32lb difference between the tire that was on there and full size spare...so I went with it, so far so good. I also fixed the annoying exhaust rattle I had with a new hanger on each side. Both sides had welds that broke, and the passenger side was banging on the crossmember and the driver's side was banging on a spring hanger...there was about 2-3" of play on each side. So I just put the clamp style hangers on.
Thursday March 19:
Put a new carpet pad in the rear of the Bronco. Threw in those plastic glovebox liners in Red and the Bronco. Very Nice if I do say so myself. Only problem I had was, the top left hole didn't line up for either rig, there was enough room, so I just redrilled a new hole. Only other complaint is, now everything slides around inside, so I figure I'll just cut out a piece of rubber from an old bed mat, and call it good. Replaced the side marker lights on the Bronco from the Mr. Taillight kit. I also realized the 3/8" foam gasket that comes with the tail lights doesn't allow the stock length screw to grab. So I just left the gasket out. I also put in new reverse sockets in Red and the Bronco...now I all reverse lights are operational...woooooooohoooooooooo. Been running only one in Red for about 9 months, and haven't had any in the Bronco since I bought it (well the sockets were bad anyways).
Friday March 20:
Replaced the outside door handles and tail gate lettering on the Bronco so they're not gold anymore. I gave my dad the door lock cylinders the night before so they could be etched so they're back to being 'silver' instead of gold. So that just leaves the antenna being gold...but I'll just replace that. I threw on the woodgrain dash (from the junked truck mentioned above), I had the glove box and trim, and the Bronco already had a woodgrain steering wheel...however, with the current interior pattern, it doesn't really seem to 'fit'. But it'll be alright if I just dye the gold inserts a darker tan, and replace the gold knobs. I also took apart the passenger side door on the Bronco because the inside door handle no longer allowed you to open the door...fixed that. But in the process, found out the crushed velvet put on the door panels are RED...but they didn't look to be in too good of shape.
Saturday March 21:
Ordered a dash pad cover for the Bronco...cuz the pad in it now is trashed. I also ordered paint for the roof because some spots are wearing through. I also priced that $250 in replacement panels will make the Bronco rust free (driver's side floor pan (3 nickel sized holes), passenger side rocker (2" cancer spot), driver's side has a bubble over the wheel well (2" bubble), and have one big bubble (3" bubble) on the driver's side lower 'bedside' panel right in front of the bumper. But that will get done waaaaaaaay down the road when it gets repainted with the same scheme ranger429 has, but in red/white. I also washed/waxed/detailed Red and the Bronco...took about 5 hours a piece, was out there from 730am til 530pm...but it was well worth it.
Sunday March 22:
Drove back to school.
And that fellas, sums up my spring break.
