My wife has all the stuff to do stained glass just had to have all the tools but never uses them.
I played with stained glass a little years ago it was ok but not my cup of tea. I learned to do it to patch a few windows.

Hey Smokey, would a product like Stay Clean flux work for tinning?

BTW, got my lead in yesterday, so I'm getting closer...

Stay-Clean Liquid Flux will work just fine I have used it.
Never used the paste as a tinning flux not sure about it.

I assume I would just wipe the liquid flux on the prepared surface, then hit it with some heat from the torch until it turns silver, then wipe off?

correct paint it on. heat till it scales and wipe with a CLEAN cotton rag and you are ready to melt some lead.

I would say almost any hardware store should have it. I have got the liquid flux at the local hardware store.

I would think it should work. you use very little on the spreader and once seasoned you seldom need to reapply

Found some tinning paste at Lowe's Saturday. Bought the small bottle to see how well it works before getting the larger 1lb bottle.

Saw somewhere over the weekend that beeswax could be used as a paddle lube as well. Smokey, have you heard that before?

I heard that it could be used but have never tried or know of anyone that used it. Seems to me the beeswax would contaminate the solder but I might be wrong.

That is what I was also thinking... Looks like I would be better off using the solder flux paste or a tallow as a paddle lube, huh?
