I got parts coming in next week. I was worried about the condition of the spindle, but it looks ok. I do need to buy new lockouts though. The old one kinda came apart when the wheel bearing came apart.

Yep thats what happened to mine. If ya got the money id get the Warn premium hubs. I got a set on my 85 and they havent given me a lick of trouble. Same with the ones that were on the 76.

I dont know. I never really paid attention to see what they were made of. They are all metal though and very simple to work on and rebuild. Ill go out and look at the 85 and see.

I don't know about brass, but the premium hubs are all metal construction. The mechanism does not have any plastic parts including the switch. They're pretty heavy duty-- I'm satisfied with mine.

Dan, are the premiums really made out of brass, or are they brass-coated? Thanks for the info.

No brass in the Warn hubs, the brass colored dial has been coated this color. The Premium hubs are all metal and the dial is Zinc - Aluminum Alloy ("ZA Alloy"). The clutch ring and inner drive gear are 4140 steel.

Here is the Warn application chart, read the notes at the bottom of the chart to make sure you get all the correct parts (ie "spindle nut kit if needed"). www.warn.com/truck/hubs/premium_application_chart.shtml

Got my parts in yesterday from JBG. The hub already had the bearing races installed. When I looked down inside the hub, I could see the dreaded "Made in China" stamp on the race. Those were tapped out and I installed the races that came with the timken bearings. Also put in a new needle bearing on the spindle - took about three hours of "tapping" to get that one out.

I also noticed that the new raybestos hub did not have the slots for the lug nuts, but the lug nuts had the serrations. It took a while to get those in also.

So, new hub, new bearings, new lockouts(Warn premium). I had replaced the brakes and rotors a couple of months ago, so now all I need is a test drive.

LIFE IS GOOD! Thanks everybody for the help and suggestions.
