smoke outa no where

smilieFordlogo I have been having a problem starting the old girl. She cranks and cranks and there is a loud bussing noise? THen today the ground wire from the block to the firewall melted and started to smoke. Any idea's?

I don't even know what to look for.

You've definitely got some electrical issues. Check all the connections on the big wires (around the battery, alternator, starter, starter solenoid, etc)-- as well as your ground straps.

Yeah, It sounds like a ground problem where the neg. battery cable connects to the engine.

That one started to smoke because it was doing all the work. Look for the grounds that have been slacking off (loose/dirty/corroded/missing).
