i went mudding in the 94 friday :headbang: and saturday morning when i got ready to leave i started the truck and for the first 45 seconds or so i heard a metal on metal grinding/tapping sound....it went away so i drove it to my friends where i was going and we looked it over...the sound does it in park for about 2 to 3 minutes now and does it worse in reverse and in drive at low speeds....we determined it wasnt coming from the engine but around the fly wheel/ torque converter area...and we thought tat maybe mud hitting the dust cover warped it and the fly wheel is rubbing it...we are gonna look further into it tomorro any suggestions on what it may be?

pull the inpection cover. bet it is full of mud. That has happened to me may times. I just stick the pressure washer nozzle in and clean everthing out and all is fine.
they have been packed so full several times the clutch wouldn't even release.

I think I would pay to see a mud run bend a converter... I doubt it would be that bad without impact damage. Could be as simple as a rock stuck in the mud scraping on the converter or flexplate.

Driving golden Rule #1:

When someone crosses into your path- DO NOT beat an emergency retreat and threaten your own life/property to avoid hitting them. Go right ahead and smack 'em.

1. They likely have insurance, and their insurance will cover your damage. Not true in single-car accidents.

2. Why risk your life and limb to avoid hitting some other miscreant on the road?

i think i faired better with the fence than i would have with the truck with a bigass ranch hand grille guard coming my way at sixty...i think i took the better option

yeah honestly i think you made the better choice. but.... thats just me... if you do anything make sure you pull that engine!!! and part the truck out after you buy it back from insurance if it is totalled. you'll make way more money like that.

Maybe. I trip into the weedpatch could be life-threatening too (more often then you'd think). Look at that horizontal fence pole in the pic- you damned near got pole-axed! Six inches to the left and you wouldn't be posting this evening. Was there a way to get him to whomp you in the quart panel without headoning him?

(300k on the body 36k on motor)? i found a 95 f350 diesel single cab flatbed not sure on mileage, and a 85 f250 6.9idi ext cab long bed w 64k miles...anything in particular i should look for as far as problems go with these boys?

i can tell you when i got rear ended in my 92 Flareside it had 300k on the body and the insurance company dont care if it has a new motor or not. itll probably get around 1500 probably. it wont be a whole lot. thats why i said pull the motor and part the rest of it out.

Damn man...sorry to hear this. Glad you're ok. But I agree with Ernie, be defensive, keep yourself safe, but let someone else pay for the damage. Not to mention, hitting that ditch coulda flipped/rolled you, you coulda eaten that fence post, etc.
