Sorry for any grammatical errors im using my phone.

Ok ladies, after inspecting the spare block two days ago we noticed a crack in the area the. Oil pump bolts up to And I didnt feel comfortable using the block. And as far as the boring over, was suggested as a clean up and to rid a scratch that was made on the number 4 cyllinder wall due to someone not following simple verbal instructions when removing the cyllinder.
yes I could probably of got away with. 010 over but I good him take it to. 020 for the hell of it. Anyways off to bed for me... just got off a draggin a.... grave shift!

You generally want to bore at the lowest amount you can...preserving the block for future possible boring.

Exactly...the issue I had with it, Ryan, was more or less you could prevent the bore job with a simple honing (especially now that he says he could have gotten away with .010), and depending on the rig I would...ie, the Bronco would get honed, Red wouldn't.

^^^Now you're seeing my side of it...throw a little 'frugal' bastard into the mix, with a dash of rig quality and you'll see how my mind works.

Scary...isn't it.

.060 is bout the max on most blocks.. some more some less but the general rule is .060 is MAX... and even then sometimes you run risk of overheating more since the water jackets are so close to the cyl's... just not a good idea..

to me, im one that when i wanna build a engine. if its been bored before, its a no go for me... would rather stick to .030 or MAYBE .040... never .060....

A .020 is a pretty conservative bore, no? The way I understand is most high mileage motor rebuilds are .030 over, right out the gate.

Ryan

.030 is a standard figure....but it's always more prudent to go with the smallest overbore possible...unless you are trying to achieve the maximum size out of your engine or that the only oversize pistons are .030.
