You still need to swap your shorties for longtubes, that'll show some gains.

If you don't mind using more fuel you could get bigger injectors and have your truck tuned.

gt40 heads ported, 56mm TB gasket matched intakes 1.7 rr's shorty headers from a lightning straight pipes no cats with glasspacks msd cap rotor and wires with NGK plugs K&N air filter 460/300-6 intake tube eliminated the smog stuff PVC replacement on the TB intake between it and the airbox (I've got MAF) 3.55 with posi rear...soon hopefully to have swaybars....and that's pretty much it.

EDIT: thanks Chris forgot about that....

Sounds about time for a 5.8!!:)

I'm clueless on 351 strokers other that the CI's what the diff? Like a 331 and 347?

331 and 347 are based off the 302 block. The stroke is the only difference.
393, 408 are based off the 351 block. Same thing, stroke is the only difference.

You can get more than 408 out of a 351w, but you lose street ability. The rod angle becomes extreme and so does the over bore.

My 393 started as an 87 351w block. It's bored .030 over and has an offset ground crank with a 3.85 stroke.

Rod angle is what I meant should have been clearer, so that what about the 427 kits they have out?

So the 393 is a .030 over and a 460 crank ground down for the W block?

Not 460. A 400 crank can be ground for it, or there are inexpensive cranks on the market for it.

As far as the 427, Dave Kuzmen knows more than I, but I understand that the long stroke puts the rods at a bad angle and makes the internals wear quicker. Hopefully Dave will catch this and chime in.

If I remember correctly (it's been awhile) the stroker kits for the 351w use a 400m crank ( I know the 408 for sure) they offset grind the rod journals, and do something with the rear main seal area to fit the W block. Then they use a chevy rod with a special Ford piston the oil rings are extremly close to the wrist pin. Thats why the larger the stroker the more unstreetable it becomes the angles get severe wearing piston skirts and wrist pins faster due to the piston slap. If you want a large streetable stroker the largest would be the 408. Hope this answers any questions. I could probably dig up some accual specs if you wantd just lemme know if you have anymore questions..

oh Paul...don't get cocky lol....I'm quite happy with the 5.0........
I guess you're right, I just put the 5.0 back in the truck over the weekend while I "upgrade" the 5.8. I got a lot of work to do besides monkey with the truck so I need it on the road. Should have it fired this week some time.

The problem with the 5.0 is that almost everything you do to make more power from where you are now pushes the whole powerband further up in rpm. About the only thing that doesn't is a blower, but that isn't a cheap upgrade either. Swap to a 5.8 and right away you gain a big fat chunk of TQ at low rpms so the motor feels much more powerful even if it doesn't make any more peak HP. And because of the added displacement you can use a longer duration cam to get more HP without impacting low rpm power as much.

Its cool I pretty much understand what I need to for now, IF I get to look/think about one then I'll do some more research on it. Tks
