Hello everyone,

Would anyone like to share some pictures of their rim and tire combinations? I like the look of the american racing Baja rims on the truck. I am currently in the 4-6 lift range, and running 38/15.5 on 16.5x12 rims. (maybe 10's, hard to measure, still on the truck) I have full turning and zero rub.
I can not stomach the thought of 18-20 bling rims on this classic.

I am looking at the BFG Krawler or mud terrain, or the tsl swampers. It seems like more tires are listed for the 17" rims but American racing only offers an 8" rim in 17... I like the look of the tires on a thinner rim but 8 might be pushing it.

I know this might all some silly and obvious to some, but I thought i would get some other opinions. This tire, rim, lift combo is going to cost 3-4k so I hope to do it once and love the outcome.

Thank you,
Chris

If you're purely going for looks, it's tough to beat the Interco line, but even the radials will be noisy, wear out in 40-45k and wander. I don't mind those things, so that's what I primarily get. If you're looking for something more streetable, BFG, Dick Cepek and Mickey Thompson have alot to choose from. As for rims, I always like the classic bullet holes, and tough to go wrong there.

Have you considered the BFG KM2 tires? Mine are only 305/70-16, but they have a nice aggressive look, stable ride, and most importantly, are quiet!

Here is a pic:

Derek,

That is a great looking truck, I really like the "FORD" in the grill and not on the hood like my 78.
are you still running 16.5's? or did you choose 16/17?

thanks,
Chris

fix the suspension first...

Thank you for your insight.
Do you have a truck in this generation running a tires/rim combination you could share a picture of? What I am asking is, if people have gone up or down in rim size, have they found an issue with a dana 60/16 rim combo, or finding tires with 16 rims becoming more rare and not stocked in the sizes they want.

I like the interco tire,, I have run the all my life along with some BFG AT's. Obviously different tires styles completely. But with Interco restructuring, there has been limited production of a lot of their product line making it maybe not such a good choice. I have been waiting for a the Q78-16LT swamper for a different truck for almost a year now, still no tire.

So my guess is to go to 17"rims, On paper there appears to have more choice and better availability.

no i dont.. im simply saying fix the suspension first before you spend money on the tires....

i'bve seen alot of people go to 17's and have a huge selection of tires..

plus 17's you can fit more brake behind the wheel to help stop the truck...

I agree Chris...17's have a lot of choices.

The wheels & tires on it look good in my opinion! If it were me, I wouldn't change anything wheel wise. Mickey Thompsons aren't they? If you're putting it back to stock height, you could get some 33x12.5R16.5 or 35's. I have old school 16.5x9.75 alum slots on mine with 33x12.5R16.5 tires. (In avatar) bfg still makes 33's & 35's for a 16.5 rim.

Like you Chris couldnt decide what to do...so i took a good hard look at what i had cleaned prepped and painted the centers to save on cost for now...these are the chrome wagon wheels 16.5 with the super swampers 38x12.50x16.5 which are available in abundance still today, along with cost effective they dont break the bank so to speak..sure they howl..but isnt that a characteristic of a lifted truck?..I dont mind it one bit neither do the folks when i drive by them...I always get positive looks they will wave or give me the thumbs up...Nice Truck man..in time youll get her right..Good luck Chris!!..

Yeah, I like those a lot.....I bet they're a lot less noisy on the road than Interco's, but the wheels are pretty common, but still a very, very nice look.
