What would be realistic value of an original AM/FM radio for these trucks anyway. I've seen people on ebay selling these things for over $100 and usually not even original truck radios. I just tested one tonight that I found out of a truck which had wet dirt all over it because the windshield was busted out and thought it would never work and it did. Not sure what to do with it, but at least I have it.

To tell you the truth Buck...I don't really know how to gauge them...I've seen them go for as little as $5 and as much as $100. I figure you'd have to find that one certain buyer that is trying to do a back to stock rebuild to get any great value out of it...but I figure most guys would be willing to put up $40 for it.

i havent seen a stock Ford radio but i bought my AM/FM that i had for 10bux. Your best bet is a junk/antique store. I managed to come across a whole box and jus picked what i wanted and a handfull of knobs.

My heater duct didn't take any modification to make my cd player to fit, and i put it in the stock location. Just a standard alpine cd player. I did feel kinda bad about cutting up my dash, but WTH. I did it, and it sounds good. I think it is one of those modifications that should happen, if needed.

I have been fighting this battle for a while. I have a factory am/fm to put in my truck. But I think I am going to go ahead and bite the bullet and go for a CD player. I don't play my music real loud but I do like it to be clear and I want to choose some times also. Will probly get the deck this coming weekend and go for it.

Yeah...I was fighting that battle too...and went for the CD player...wish I wouldn't have, but I didn't know about the retro head unit guys at the time. Another reason for the regret is...I typically just plug my iPod into the lighter anyway...never even listen to CD's...and rarely search the stations. But it was a boost in listening quality.

Yeah I hear that...but for me, hindsight is 20/20 and holding off on the head unit changes would have been better.

Right now I have a tape deck in my truck that the PO put in back in the 90's. I don't think I own a single tape any more, so I just use the radio. I'm not that high tech either, so after some personal debate I've decided I would really like to put an original AM/FM back in the truck. The tape deck I have now is the post style and fit right in with out cutting the dash, so I'm ready to go. Just have to find a nice clean and working unit. If anyone has one they want to part with, let me know.

I still have the original AM radio in the dash of Burt and it works fine through the dash speaker. However I have the CD player for my surround system mounted below the dash for really good quality sound. I know the retro head unit does not have an internal CD player, but can a changer be plugged into the aux on the back? I would like the idea of having it in-dash if it "fit" without chopping up the dash. It's hard sometimes to adjust/see the under dash one when I am driving and I really don't like the look of it. I had a remote for it but lost it also...

I have an original truck AM/FM radio that I can't get to work. It lights up and everything, but no sound. The original wire connector has been cut off. If anyone knows a thing or two about radios and would want to tinker around with it to get it to work, I'd be happy to give it away if someone wants it.

Hmm...I don't know any more than the average bear about radios, myself. I do have a buddy though that is skilled in electronics and real savvy with stereo stuff. He might could get it working.

If your looking for a good home for it, Buck, I'd be happy to give it a try.

Darn I was going to ask Buck for that broken down radio.
I fiddle with those old things myself every once in awhile.

I'll thumb wrestle you for it!

Just kidding, man. If you fiddle with them and want that one, go ahead and claim it. You probably have a better chance of getting it to work anyway, since you have experience with them.

I'll still keep my eyes out for a good deal on a working one.

Also, there was a AM/FM radio and an AM/FM stereo--two different units, right? I assume with the door speakers and speakers I have on either side of the cab behind the seat that I would be better off with the stereo--or was there no difference?
