Replacing velcro on tonneau cover

The velcro on my tonneau cover no longer holds the cover in place. I want to replace the velcro, but I am wondering about the self-sticking velcro and how well the adhesive on the velcro holds up, especially with securing that much surface area. Has anybody had any experience with replacing velcro on their covers? I know there is some industrial stuff that works because this velcro has been on my truck for about ten years.

If you have a way to stitch the velcro on the cover, you'd be good.

Yeah, I can stitch the velcro on the cover, but the other side is glued onto the metal runner. There is no way to stitch that side.

Mark, that is what I was afraid of. The other stuff lasted at least ten years and is still "stuck" to the metal, but the velcro loops themselves are wearing out.

I've used the self stick velcro for non-truck applications, and the glue is not strong enough, in my opinion, to trust for use on your bed cover at highway speeds. Especially when it gets hot under that black cover, as Mark mentioned.

Maybe you could try getting velcro with no glue and holding it on with double sided tape like they use to hold badges onto vehicles these days. That's what's holding the tank badges on my Harley--and they have stuck fast for 40,000 miles now. Even though I'm frequently caught in the rain!
