Rag joint help!

It has to be a rag joint, those DD joints would kill my power steering box, there would be nothing to soak up any vibrations..

Tex, The box side of that coupler comes off...so you just need the column side .

When you first started talking about the tilt column I thought you had a 4x4 not a 4x2.
Otherwise, I would have taken the time to look further in my garage to make sure that went with the column.

Don't the rag joints keep vibration from the steering gear from getting transfered to the steering wheel? The steering gear gets all the vibrations no matter what you have in the steering column, it's wether or not those vibrations get sent to the wheel or not that the rag joint helps with. It's about "comfort" for the driver and the driver feeling every bump in the road through the steering wheel.

I am not an expert on the subject, but think about it. The vibrations from the road get transfered from the tires/wheels, to the steering linkage, to the pitman arm, to the sector shaft, to the worm/piston assembly, to the rag joint and up the steering column to the steering wheel. All it does is cushion any vibration going up the column. The steering gear sees the same road vibrations no matter what is in the column since the steering gear is below the rag joint......I would think.

Thats what I asked in another Thread, when I thought about it, it didn't make any sense how it could lesson any ware on the steering components..
Be just my luck flying down I-10 and my pitmen arm snaps off...lol
