Rag joint help!

TexasNomad

FTFS Designated DRINKER!
Hey guys i'm trying to install my new tilt steering Column but I ran in to a big problem..

Here is my new column
P3200106.jpg

As you can see the end of the shaft is toothed for the rag joint.
But my old column end can not be removed, So it seems to me I've tried every thing knowing it off pulling it off and nothing wont even budge

So now I don't know what to do? is this not the right steering Column for my truck?
Any help would be awesome thanks.

Count the splines on the shaft and see if it is 30. If it is, and it's 3/4 inch, it will work. Or you could go to the junkyard and see what vehicle has a rag joint that will fit it, and use that info to buy a new rag joint.

I know the it has 30 splines but the size is very weird, nothing I can find seems to match up..

I got it from Dennis.
All replacement rag joints I find are 30 spline 3/4 but the shaft on this new column is smaller much smaller..

He might know what you need r even have it.
That's how he works! He sells you an odd ball column cheap. Then charges you out the waaazooo for the parts to adapt it!!!

It has been mentioned many times here and on the other site that TILT columns come with a splined ends not a fixed coupler for a rag joint lire NON-Tilt columns

4x4's use a coupler shaft that slide on on the column splines

4x4steeringshaft.jpg

4x2's WITH A TILT column use this

4 x 2's non -tilt columns use this

That tilt column I sent you never came with a coupler.

Tex is this for a 4x2 or 4x4 ?

You should be able to get a coupler from a late 60's T-bird

4x2 Dennis and none of the Junk yard here have any old Tbirds, i've searched these junk yards every body crushed their old cars..
I'll see if I can find one some where.

How could some thing like this be obsolete, I mean not even any of the after market places have this, isn't kind of a important part?

The newest truck that uses this part is 30 years old, the demand is slight, that's why.

Tex, you may only need the column side of the coupler.

I am pretty sure it will bolt up to the steering box side. and you can cut a new insulator from a piece of conveyor belt

This is way more trouble then I wanted..
Now I'm just pissed, All I need is one god damn little part and no body on this freaking earth has it?
I've called green and they said Never seen before it Rock auto? nope, Emailed PEROGIE, got a reply "never seen any thing like it" Called Jegs and he said Borg might be able to make me one but that's going to cost a few hundred bucks and wouldn't you know the only junk yards in the panhandle that had these tucks have all ready pulled the parts having to do with the columns and steering.
That'll teach me.. never again..
Should have just saved my damn money and got a Flaming River..

Can't you get one from another truck and weld to the end of your column?
or use a double d joint and grind down the other side of yours?
or just get a single d joint with a set screw/bolt?
Looks like there would be better options than throwing it away or spending hundreds for a custom part.
