I'm need a muffler(s). I want it to be quiet, almost like stock, but still be free flowing. I will have NO cats.

What would you suggest?

It should have the following qualities:

Quiet
Inexpensive
Last a long time
Flow well

Let's see, you could get flowmasters (or another decent turbo) and they will satisfy the first requirement on the list and if you shop carefully will satisfy the third and fourth requirement. Or you can get glasspacks, which burn out and sound raspy and aren't famous for longevity, but they will satisfy the last second and the fourth requirement on the list. Run your tailpipes to the clear to the back and point them down (get the right tip) to lower the noise.

*I'd back off the low $ requirement as you really shouldn't have to spend a fortune (relative term perhaps) for a couple of decent mufflers. Note what I said about glasspacks (cheap, and you can look forward to replacing them).

why quiet?????????????????????????????? just my thought.
This is my daily driver and I'd rather it be quiet. It would be more "sleeper" too if it was quiet.

I'll shop around a bit. I'd like to find a muffler with dual 2.25" inlets and a single 3" outlet, but they are around $100. I may have to just get one though...

I got 2 Flowmasters in good shape for free, so I'll probably use them. They are short though, so they'll prolly be loud. Oh well, I had good intentions... lol.

My recommendation is a 50 Series FM. Have one on the '71 with a 302 it's not uber quiet but normal driving and cruising warrant quiet driving.

Seem to flow well, no they're not cheap, quiet enough I never have to worry about the law, haven't seen the longevity as it was near new when I got the truck...

I'll see about a sound clip later today...

Flowmaster has that hushpower muffler out...also remember muffler placement determines loudness as well....my 2-1 Thrush welded is where my cats were with the pipe going straight out the back and it is REALLY quiet...got a nice mellow idle to it and the noise level at speed is nothing to be afraid of....nice tone...I'd get a clip if i could man...
