New valves are 250-300 plus a 150-200 core charge...but yes, a new one is definitely coming in the next month or so

before ya get one we should check some part numbers, ive got 2 complete power assist setups that ill never use. but after reeading this hole thread id have to lean on the controll valve also

Sticking valve is my next thought ben...
Maybe the hose you didn't replace has build up in it from over the years and doesn't let fluid move as easily through it?

Just thinkin out loud with that one though.

Replaced the the other hose to the cylinder as well, both hoses were right around $160 together. And the hose lines from the pump to the valve were replaced in the last 5 years.

Alright sounds good, wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of the valves and maybe a power cylinder if you could part with it. I have the bendix style valve, not the garrison. I know my valve has been leaking for about 3-4 years now, but a drop hear or there didn't bug me. Gotten a little worse over the last few months, just couldn't afford a new valve.

For comparison sake, you can see the difference between the two valves in the upper right corner page 106.

However, got to the bottom of it. I had the little sis helping me last night and on one of the fittings I cracked loose to purge the air (the main problem line), I left it cracked and she thought she was helping by turning the wheel when I went inside for some drinks. God knows how much extra air I have in that line now. So I'll go back over that tonight. I thought it was rather odd that it was getting better and then BAM, almost back to square one.

Man that sucks, but honestly you gotta give her some credit for taking the initiative there. Just think if you tightened that line up before you went in maybe she would have had that all bled out for you smilietease

Yeah...I'm not mad or anything, I was glad to have had the help. I was just puzzled that at one time it was getting better and then it was like starting at square one. But yeah, this morning it hit me, I had left her unattended a couple times to grab tools and I could hear her turning but those times nothing was cracked. Well, I had a Duh moment and asked her about it this morning and she said yeah she was turning anytime I wasn't around. So I told her thanks for the help and she can help again tonight...but with instructions this time...haha.

hey Ben i got a chance to look at the 2 set-ups ive got and there both the garrenson type

Not a problem man, I appreciate you looking though. I fought with this system for a while and patched it to keep it working, I just need to bit the bullet and buy the new valve. However, in the next few years, when it's time to go through Red again, I'm gonna go with a 79 system.

Ben...Here is something that was posted during your absence...thought that you might be interested so I went back and dug it up...I thought that there was a link in it berfore but I guess not.

Found it...http://benchworksteering.com/F250conversion.htm

Thanks for the heads up Chuck. That is really awesome, but I was shocked at the cost. I thought you could get a full 79 system done up for about half that, am I wrong?

In other news...found a guy who works in the hydraulics department for my dad. Apparently this guy rebuilds these old valve systems all the time for restores and whatnot for area shops. The guy said the parts are right around $100 and labor should be less than 50. So I'm gonna give him a shot first. If it doesn't work, I'll buy a new valve...and tell myself I've spent $150 worse ways.
