Yeah...'cause duct tape over a rust hole makes it tons safer. Around here, a lot of people fill rocker panels with that aerosol expanding foam.

On the other hand, today was a prime example of why they're good. I failed because the truck needs an upper ball joint.

Now...I know my truck well enough to know that there was something wrong with that corner. Hadn't got around to figuring out what, but it hasn't progressed to unsafe yet, either. All the same, many people wouldn't have noticed there was anything wrong, and wouldn't have fixed it until it became a problem unless somebody told them.

I had to get that junk out of the front of my fender and weld a rather large patch in because of it.

I would imagine the other one is the same.

Inspections in NJ are strict, but a joke at the same time. My buddy went with his 89 GMC 2500 with king bed(landscapers bed) and its a shit box now, all rotted, blows blue, muffler falling apart and rattling and leaking, it passes. My moms 96 Grand Marquis in super shape with 150K on it, fails for 1 of 2 plate bulbs. I have seen some hack stuff go through inspection. We do inspections at our job and I do my own on my cars, they all would pass but rather do it my self and not fail for something stupid. I know when I have to ck it out for inspection my boss stresses, brakes, lights, horn, glass, and steering/suspension. Emissions is tested also. I like my truck 8-8500+gvw is like idle test so its nice. DMV is free if you go there, got to re-register you car every year, inspection every 2, reg depends on cost of car. Private DMV is 89 for dyno cars, 95 and below, and for 96+ its 49 or so. Total rip. Glad I dont pay.
