ordered my sound deadener

good day every one i placed an order on evil bay for 150 sq ft of b-quiet extreme sound deadener for the sc i used this stuff for my f250 and my granada and would recommend it to any one its realy good stuff sticks like hell and makes a world of difference for sound control and makes your music sound awsome i love that sound of a solid "thud"instead of "clang" when you close the doors i word of warning though make darn sure you cut out any holes before you peel&stick as its a real bear to get off [found that out the hard way]
now if i only had my sc back from the body shop and a nice warm garage to work in lol regurds joe

I think I'm going to order the 50^ of Fatmat for my truck. It's a little cheaper. Do you have any experience with the Fatmat?

I'm interested to see pictures and hear about your experiences with it. This is something that I'd like to eventually do...

x2...I've never understood what exactly sound deadener does. Keep out road noise? Keep in cab noise? Is it really worth doing?

Not sure what his purposes are-- but yes it's used for both of those. Keep out road noise and keep in the sound from you stereo. A lot of audiophiles with nice stereos like to dynamat their vehicles. It also can sometimes help the shakes and rattles that you get in your doors, etc.

OOOOOOH...ok gotcha...I just didn't know how much it kept in or out. I mean, does it deaden the sound of your exhaust...so you can actually hear your music?

As for helping rattles and shakes...does it really help, or just help quiet those noises too?

It seems to do a good job of all those things, depending on which brand you buy. Marc, across the street from me, has dynamatted almost his entire cab and you can barely hear the mud-terrains + aftermarket exhaust when the truck is cruising down the road (he took me for a ride to show me). Basically it's just a thick tacky film that contains something that's REAL heavy. My first guess would be lead but I know that can't be it cuz lead = toxic. But you hold a sheet of the stuff and the weight-to-volume ratio is pretty impressive. It basically just adds mass and thickness to all your doors/floor/ceiling/wherever.

I used sound insulation under my carpet when I replaced it and it did "muffle" the road noise and glass pack noise some. I want to put some across the back of the cab when I put the carpet there also, as well as under the headliner. Its' still a little hard to hear the stereo well sometimes... I find that I have to really turn it up and when I come to a stop it blasts me out! I used the stuff from A1Auto and like it.

i used dynamat in my olds cutlass when i had more watts in speakers than horsepower.. it works damn good. stop squeeks, rattles, grinding and road noise. its well worth the price. i havent used the cheap knock off stuff. but im sure it works about the same. http://www.dynamat.com/products_automotive_introduction.html. i recomend it to every one, i will be dynamattin my 79 prolly in the spring

Another thing that can go a long way in helping reduce cabin noise is to "pack" your door gaskets. The rubber gets compressed over time and makes a looser and looser seal, to combat this you fill the hollow middle of these gaskets with a plastic or rubber tubing or solid "wire". What this does is make the gasket larger and harder to compress so they seal better.

That's a good idea! My door gaskets are nearly flat!

i only have 1 pic in my gallery for the reg cab on the floor yes it is quite the job but well worth it in the end another plus is it repells and seals any water from the metal that gets in to the cab the rubber based butel with an aluminum top side is also easy to work with on flats and bends ect will be takeing lots of pics again for the sc as its hard to prove "rust free" when you cant see the floor lol regurds joe

i checked out the specs between the b-quiet and the dynamat and it seems the dynamat may be a bit better for sound control .41 to .29 @68f but there is a dealer in alberta and shipping was a good price still happy with the product

What I understand is that it just kills noise level frequencies. It's rubberish and doesn't pass the energy through it like metal does. It just absorbs it in its elasticity and density.

It not only keeps noises in and out...
But with heat also...
IF you get the right stuff it can help keep heat from coming of places like your fire wall and trans tunnel, and your roof too..

I did a friend of mine's car with the stuff. For sound purposes...
It stops rattles by adding mass to the panels, and muffles sound. The metal and even plastic panels will conduct the sound and reverberate.

The sound deadener stops that from happening...

I dont reccomend that fat mat, your paying for name more than anything...
Get some stuff off of ebay, its basically all the same, just like cheerios are cheerios no matter what you call them.

People often forget to do the firewall, and this is a big place to let sound AND heat in... Do as much of it as you can... If your going to do it, dont cheat your self, pull your seats, and the carpet... Will make things much easier, seats and seat belts are VERY easy to remove, usually 4 bolts, and 2 bolts for the seat belt... Fords often take Torx heads....

Do the roof, door pillars, floor, you can do the doors if you want but i have a cheap fix for that later. Do the firewall and if you can pull some of your dash apart and secure everything well... My dash rattles like a sumbitch...

As for the doors, take some expanding foam and spray it on the panels... Not to much or you cant roll your window down...
If you want to spend that extra coin... Just throw down the sound deadener in there too... But beware it is a ROYAL P.I.T.A. so be prepared...

Also its not uncommon to double up on the layers... For the ultimate sound deadening...
