old school aluminum mag wheels

All you need is a set of street tires. I have a set I swap my offroad tires for whenever I feel like putting on a ton of road mileage.

Very true. I may end up doing that in the long run.

That's what I do too...my street tires are SSR's...so if I go on a trip with more than 5 hours of driving...I swap out the Boggers for SSR's.

Right now I have 33s for street tires. I want the original tire size that came on these rigs though...

All I know is that when he trashed one of his 16.5" wheels he said BYE BYE!! to the whole set and bought 17" wheels and tires.

For the record Chris...through NTW...a 35x12.5x17 metric equivalent is $62 MORE expensive than a 35x12.5x16.5.

I also think swampers or mud terrain look awesome on these trucks. The only thing would be the longer drives. Granted, it won't happen very often, but I'm not ruling out the 8 hour trips to Nebraska to my home town with the dang thing and would hate to have such a rough ride.........wait a minute........it's a 77 F250 4x4 with leafs.......it won't matter, it'll be rough anyway. :)

Hey now!! My 77 Highboy rides pretty Damn good for having bad shocks all the way around. I was really impressed with how it rode considering it's a 30 year old 3/4 ton.

And as for the wheels, bleach them completely white with some kind of aluminum wheel acid, then polish them out with mothers and they will look like chrome. If they have any scratches or pits you can wet sand them to get the spots out.

Ben I've got nothing to benefit from telling you these things... I'm not trying to skew some weird point of view-- just stating fact. The 16.5" wheels on my brother's truck were a nightmare for him.

I gotcha Chris...not trying to stick it to you or anything...it just seems alot of guys think 16.5" rims are the devil...while yes their bead seal is pretty bad, but beyond that, in all reality, prices and availability are typically just as accessible as any other sized rim.

I hate that style. If they were Hurricanes it'd be a different story but that style has never done anything for me.

I run 16.5 on the 250 and when it is time to replace these I'm going to a 17" rim size with a 37" tire, probably a Cepek FCII. Eventually 16.5 is going to be long gone.

I bought a set of 16.5 Hurricane II's for $50.00( it cost me $100.00 for the lug nuts though). I have no problem finding 16.5 tires, but they are a little more in price.

I got 16 inch rims cause the tire place I got em done at didnt carry a 16.5. The guy kinda looked at me funny when I told him that I wanted a 16 inch rim cause he was used to all the kids my age wantin bigger rims. When my mom went to try to find new tires for her truck they told her that bfg quit makin em ina 16.5 rim for the rest of that year and they were on back order with thousands of orders to fill.

Im with the other Chris, Ive never heard anything but bad about the bead area on 16.5" rims. But as far as availability, around my neck of the woods, its not that difficult to find tires for them

a drill a 4 or 5" buffing wheel and a block of jewlers rouge will shine those up nice and fast

If you go to a big truck chrome shop or parts store they will have what is called a cutting wheel which is similar to a buffing wheel but you use the edge instead of the face. Use the rouge bar, and your absolutely right! This is how we do it on our big trucks at work.

I went to look at a set of Hurricane II wheels today. 16.5 x 9.75 , 8 lug. He wanted $100 for the set of 4.
They were in decent shape but they had a wide back offset. Like 7"to 8" .which buries the wheel into the fender well.
Needless to say I was disappointed. It was a 70 mile round trip. Next time I'll think to ask.
I probably wouldn't have done anything with them , anytime soon but they are getting hard to come by.

The slots are real popular w/ the Early Bronco crowd, IMO they seem to fit any of these old trucks better than any other wheel. I bought a set for my Bronco then ended up putting them on my 71 short bed project. The 16.5 would scare me a little, only because they are getting harder to find in my area and I believe eventually you won't be able to get them at all. I may be wrong, but for that price I wouldn't shy away. Run a search on Ebay and you can get a feel for what they are going for.

I like them and i think if you could get them for 200, you should get them. you can find 16.5 tires on cl if you look around, they are harder to find than 16's, but i like them better. you cant even get a 12.5 inch wide tire in a 16. the 305 and 315 tires are only about 10.5 inches wide, I believe,
