So im trying to pull the old fuel pumo relay right now and am incredibly confused...
my haynes manual says that there is a cover over the relays i have to take off to get to em, but there is no cover on mine it is a 1 piece plastic thing with the electrical plugs going in the bottom... how do i get to the relay? can someone describe what the relay will look like?
i pulled the plug from underneath the label "fuel pump" on the plastic but cant get to the relay itself.

help! i can post pics of the cover thing if you want

Sounds to me like you're overcomplicating it, lol. Under your hood, on the driver side wheel well, you've got your big black plastic Power Distribution Box. Open the cover on the power dist box (it swings open on a hinge) and just pull out the black cube (the relay) that is marked fuel pump relay in the picture below:

If your is like the pic that Chris posted...that is all.

However, my 89 ranger (probably totally different) had the relay underneath (as well as the wires going to it). I had to remove the screws holding the "box" to the fenderwell to pull and replace the relay.

I dunno much about those trucks. I remember Travis telling me his truck doesn't have a PDB, the relays are just wherever they happened to be throughout the engine compartment. I think his is an '89, though, and they may have changed it for '90.

If you have a PDB, though...it should have a hinged lid. Every one I've seen, just has a tool-free latch on one side and then flips up.

Airbox on left, EGR tube and then the black box on the right is marked EEC Test on the thing hanging off the top, trailer/tow on the top of black plastic box, fuel pump in the middle, and then EEC power on the bottom

thats the plug i pulled from beneath the spot labeled fuel pump

sorry for the crappy pics but its night and taken with a cell phone so hella blurry

Extremely hard to tell what is what in those pictures... But that socket that you're holding in the picture is a relay socket... There is SUPPOSED to be a relay plugged into it.

Looks to me like your power dist box is missing... Perhaps those trucks don't have 'em, I dunno.

Heres a pic of your relay. It should plug right into that harness. If nothing else, plug it in and let it hang.

Okay so its under the box i'l agree with that but...
how the hell do i get it out of the box? i mean im afraid that if i keep pulling on it that i will break the box off especially since it is already cracked

well the Warwagon is up and war-ing again!

I charged the old batt, it took ALMOST a full charge (reading 12 on the multimeter instead of the full 13.4) and plugged in a new relay. i took Tony's adivice and stopped dicking with the old relay and just plugged the new on in and let it hang. reconnected the battery and she fired right up! just a bit sluggish starting which may be the non full batt but i doubt it...
the good thing is no more fuel pumps running after shutoff so it definantly was a bad relay.

now to troubleshoot the sluggish start...(is worse when engine is hot), any ideas?

And what in the heck is your EGR tube doing way up at the front of the engine bay?!

where is yours?
could be a difference between MAF and SD

I've seen 8th gen SD trucks and I've never noticed an EGR pipe over there... The EGR pipe doesnt have any business in that part of your engine bay-- it's supposed to run exhaust from your manifold and back to the intake-- why would it need to be routed up near the airbox? Not to mention that the EGR valve is on the passenger side of your intake manifold... Getting over to the driver side where the airbox is, is quite a long journey. Does it just go in a big loop?

I'l get back to you on that...too damn cold to go back out tonight haha

I think he just miss labeled the tube.
I think that is the tube that delivers fresh air from the air box to the crankcase so the PCV valve can work.
That photo of my engine compartment fuse box (1995) that you put up was used from 1992-1995 and maybe in 1996 & 97 in some trucks.
