Odd charging system problem

Dad's 06 deezle decided to stop charging batts. We both have scan gauges and the voltage the alt put out slowly dimished to too low. So we swapped it out.

Before it would charge intermittently at different voltages. Sometimes it would charge at 13 sometimes it would drop below 9 running down the road today it was sooo bad that after i jumped him as soon as i unhooked the jump leads the dome lights flashed with the rpms.

So we swapped it out. On first start it ran 7 volts for about 20 seconds before it kicked in and started running about 13.3. So he let it idle for a couple hours, came back out to turn it off and it was idling 9volts and the batts were dead as a door nail.

I fired my truck up to see how long it tales the alternator to kick on my truck ran 11.8 for about 20 seconds then bumped to 13.5. So that is normal i guess. delayed charging. But why would it have the same issue. Equally bad alternator? It is a reman. They are soooooper easy to change so we can swap it again tomorrow. But will it help?

Should i look elsewhere?

The truck is on a trickle charge now to see if the batteries will hold juice.

You need to remove the batts for a true evaluation of the charge.

Im 96% sure the batteries are ok. As the crank hard and seem to hold a charge fine. What has me wondering is why system voltage would drop driving. That has got to be charging system doesnt it?

You were right one shorted battery. 2 cooked alternators.
