Forgot about this common issue with the Superduty and Excursion vehicle that while it won't leave you stranded, it is a pain to live with. It has to do with the shift linkage bracket bolts coming loose and losing the shift cable adjustment as a result. Check out the video, as you will likely run across this at some point in your ownership of the Superduty. I hope my video helps!

On the back of the column there are 2 torx bolts and they walk out of the shifter. Buy some loctight and put them back in. Just look under the dash where the cable comes up.

Hello I'm new to this forum I have a similar problem with my 350 5.4L the reason I'm posting in this thread is basically because I can't figure out how to start a new thread anyway here's my issue....

Ok so it started the other day I parked the truck and when I came to start it I would not crank I played with the shifter nothing still.. I put in a new starter and starter relay on passenger fender checked every fuse and relay still nothing I was able to short from my battery to starter relay wire for starter solenoid and it started right up so I've limited the electrical problem to be between my starter relay on fender to my ignition and fuse panel. When key is turned I have no power to fuse #20 15A Starter Motor Relay Coil, Clutch Switch nor to small wire on relay for solenoid on starter. Any ideas would be great! Thanks

Its a 2001 with 180k mi ..No i tried neutral and rolling it back a few feet didn't work I use a meter to check every fuse and relay even replaced starter and starter relay (on passenger fender yes OEM)I'm not getting any power from ignition coil fuse #20 under dash to the small wire on starter relay for solenoid on the starter when key is turned. I don't think it's transmission range sensor because I can jump the starter solenoid and drive it and its not throwing any codes for that once it's driving..

Yours sounds more like the slide in the column that transfers the turn of the key down the column to the ignition switch. When they first start breaking they will do this and feel normal. Now that is not a fun job.
