Hello,
I have a '92 Ford f-150 Flareside with 65,000 original miles. I've owned it for about 10 years and for the past two years have been trying to find a shop who can get to the bottom of what's going on with it. Two shops have taken it in, tried things, charged me money, but still, it's not fixed.
At first, it was bucking, engine knocking/smoking on hills only, limited power, but not bad. Had the injectors cleaned, oil pan replaced.
Now, after driving for 3 miles, hills or flat..it bucks, jerks right after it down shifts the first time. Check engine light comes on, goes off. Going up hills is almost impossible unless I put it in 2nd gear, which allows it to run pretty smoothly.
From the beginning, I thought it was the fuel pump, because it only happened on hills. Now, I'm not sure and neither are the shops. It's really costing me to much money to find out.
So far, I've had the fuel filter, plugs, (found 1 black and 1 broken plug), wires, distributor and coil replaced. He's done an injector test and is now concentrating on the fuel system.
This shop has had my truck on/off now for about 2 months. Enough!!!
Anyone have similar instances? The mechanic has asked me to do some research to help out. He is very experienced and reputable...I think he's at a loss too.
Can someone help me out with this one?
