new guy needs help

Glad I found this site.
I just purchased a 67 F100 w/ a 352 V8.
I wanted a project for me & my boys to help us understand mechanics better.
First off I have no mechanical experience at all, but I am pulling the engine (not sure if Im brave or stupid).
I am down to the last few bell housing bolts & the item I am stuck on is: 1. there are 2 lines going into the bottom of the block, not sure what they are but I cant get them loose. These are metal lines & appear they may be flared (?). Can anyone help me w/ this?
2. The engine runs but its very rough, loud ticking & it blows more smoke than Cheech.......suggestions if it is better/cheaper to rebuild or install a crate?.....again, remember I am a rookie.

By the way, I was reading posts before I became a member & many topics helped me get to where I am w/ my restoration.

Thank you all!

First, Welcome to FTF. We're glad to have you.

Second, I can't think of any such lines off the top of my head... Can you describe what side of the engine they're on? Pix are always good too. Hopefully someone smarter than me will come along and be able to tell you.

Third, Join the North Carolina Chapter! I used to live in NC myself...
