need information on changing fuel pump

I have a Ford F150 2003 Lariat Crew Cab 4.6L V8 and it just started having trouble starting. I got under the truck and tapped on the gas tank and it started. Drove and started fine for a day and now will not start at all. Is this my fuel pump that has failed? If so is this something I can replace myself? Thanks for any help in solving my problem.
