ive spent the last several months trying to fish my problem out and havent had any luck... (doesnt help me and dad cant agree where the problem is either..)

Heres the problem... changed the pads few months ago and now my calipers wont let go of the rotors... they got so hot i actually boiled the brake fluid rated for 550*F boiling point... Weve changed the lines and still wont release... and heres where me and dad dont agree... with as much as ive heard about Ford having problems with their calipers after changing the pads im convinced the problems there... Dad on the other hand because he had the same problem on the 79 suburban (same situation) we have is convinced its the master cyl not letting the fluid return (was the problem on the suburban)..

is there a way to really tell which ones really causing the problem here??

Open the bleeders and see if the calipers collapse easily.

If the caliper won't push the fluid out the piston in the caliper would be stuck. Also see if the caliper moves back and forth freely. Maybe the pins are frozen.

I'm guessing it's the Mustang you are working on. How many miles? I would venture to say it is the calipers.

yup its the stang... 33K mi... changed the pads cuz when i had it in for inspection they said they were badly worn.. come to find out they were only half worn... but when the new pads went on the calipers wont release the rotor fully.. they clamped tight enough you cant turn the tires by hand... even mic'ed the new pads and theyre under the maximum specs from ford...

i agree i think its the calipers with as much problems as fords been having across all their vehicles lines with them.. but the one with the parts money thinks master cyl...

I hate to bust your bubble, but there isn't "widespread problems" with brakes. If the pads were releasing before you replaced them, the problem is pads or installation error.

actually there is a problem... it mainly effects the Super Dutys and the suv's but more and more lately theyre showing up in the cars.. problem effecting the super duty's and suv's is water getting into the system and corroding the calipers... and the problems wont show up till the pads are changed...

the biggest reason i know that happens is cuz 3 of the guys mom works with own fords... and all 3 had the same problem... had the brakes changed and instantly had problems with their brakes not releasing... ntm if you look around on the net theres plenty of people talking about the exact same problem im having..

and the new pads are under spec... and their installed correctly...

:funnypostabove: ...hehehe. Ok ok...who's gonna be the one to tell sparky what Vince does for a living. While I'm sure you've heard horror stories, I'd be willing to bet Vince has a little better grasp on the situation.

FYI...he's probably one of the, if not the best Ford Techs you'll come across.

There's my uninformative 2¢. Just thought you might like a heads up as to who you're getting info from.

yes i saw he sig saying hes a FMC master tech

so does that mean your also calling d-kuzmen a lier for confirming the caliper problems exist when i asked if he was seeing them?? who also says hes a Master Ford Tech that is Ford Senior Master, Master ASE Certified, Diesel Certified....

Shawn , did you change the rubber lines that are connected to the caliper ?

I've had them swell to where it would not release the pressure,
but the brakes are strong enough to push fluid through them .

Just because he's seeing them doesn't mean there's a widespread issue. I've got a carb leak, I bet a tech has seen one or two of those before...must mean all carbs are bad, right? Using your logic that is. Maybe they're seeing a batch of trucks that were built on a Monday or Friday...who knows.

he didnt just confirm hes seeing it... he also confirmed ford knows about the problems WITH the calipers...

FYI.. i use to be a GM Service Tech.. id like to think id know how to least do a brake job right... ntm measure the pads for over thickness... the only thing i wasnt sure how to do is CONFIRM which side the problems on...

Wow this thread took a total turn. They didn't teach you how to diagnose brake problems at GM? :D

i only had to diagnose 1 brake problem... i just did the brake jobs when they were worn out... only problem i had brake related there to diagnose was a bad ABS sensor.... other than that it was oil changes, water pumps and a/c systems...

So you opend the bleeders and tried to collapse caliper with a screwdriver or c-clamp right?
