Motorcraft letting me down?

Well heres some history..

Truck had 500 miles when i changed Oil only, kept my new motorcraft filter on.

Well now it has around 1800 miles and today i noticed after the motor was warm, shut off, and then about an hour later starting it again the guage would be on the lower side of the M on NORMAL. Which its ALWAYS been on the high side of M or inbetween the M and A.

I have a new sending unit, and im thinking my filter is draining? Anyone?

as ive been told by people on here, the gauge is an idiot light essentially. It will fluctuate a little bit.

I never leave a filter on with an oil change, even if only run a few miles. Filters are dirt cheap compared to the worrying not swaping one can cause.

Nextras is correct. The factory gauges are not accurate at all.

Put some name brand gauges in, if you are concerned about it. I prefer auto-meter (only because that is what I have 'hiding_smilie' ).

Brian, auto meter is very good, most credited gauges i believe.

and another thing, motorcraft oil filters are of good quality.. if you notice, there heavier than other brands.

and NEVER use a napa gold filter... i had nothing but problems... NAPA id CRAPPA

wont do much, trust me.. gauge moves all the time. but, you are suppose to change the filter with the oil change.. so your not filtering new oil with old oil..

didnt you just rebuild the engine because of a mishap with apuddle?

When you rebuild and they say to do a oil change after 500 miles, because thats to get the remaining metal shavings out of the system. Your filter is probably full of that crap.

The assembly lube from the rebuild may have that filter about plugged up.

Mike the oil pressure gauge is ONLY activated by a switch. When people say it's an idiot light, it REALLY is just either On or Off. Any fluctuation you see is just random changes in the gauge. Here's a wiring diagram to prove it:

Notice that the oil pressure switch is just that, a switch (on or off, nothing in between). And read the blurb next to it too YelloThumbUp

Yea im sure shes pretty clogged.. Il change it this friday before i introduce the new motor to the sand dunes.

Thanks chris for the wiring schematics. Ive heard that these were just ON/OFF switches, but for mine to be at a steady place, then start fluctuating (Not much) Threw a yellow flag. Im not to worried about the guage i just want to see if maby a clogged filter would cause this with some of my findings on this and other forums i use.

Thanks all (After this weekend im ordering my dual pod setup and a PSI gauge) Just gotta figure out how i can have the electronic and mechanical guage. Gonna have to do some handy dandy rigging with some fittings. :)

In my bronk all the stock guages dont work, other then the speedo, tach and volts. In the pod is water temp and oil psi. 60psi is good for 143K i think, bout 45-50 when idleing
