I was out fiddling with my truck which I do when I'm worried or cheesed about some thing.
And I went play with my timing and I forgot..
Do you advance the timing when your running lower grade fuel or retard it..
I must be losing what little I have left of my mind.:(

Just to make sure I understand you...you are using fuel with LESS octane then before and you want to adjust the timing to compensate. If I am correct, then you want to RETARD the timing.

Less octane = more prone to ping/detonate/preignite = retard the timing to avoid damage to the engine if the low octane fuel poses a problem (retard too much and the exhuast gas temps will go way up, don't retard enough and the motor will ping)

More octane = less prone to ping/detonate/preignite = advance the timing to increase performance and economy (advance too much and there will be problems, if you don't advance enough you are not taking full advantage)

yupp thats why with our truck it doesnt pay to run race fuel unless you advance the timing
