I was putting last winter tires on front of my truck . And there was a knock on garage door (how anyone knew I was there??? Anyway)

Its was a neighbor of my dads . Said truck felt like steered funny ..

So I pull his truck in (A 38000 cream puff of a 88)I jack it up to check tie rods etc. And saw the tire drop after left ground . He had to replace rotors
while back . And who ever did it must have just torqued to spects and quit . Both sides were loose . I pulled them repacked bearings as look/sounded fine . And tightened up everything . He was lucky he only drives about 1500 miles a year or he would have ruined some stuff.

So always jack up truck and check a week later quick easy . Just torque them to required LB is not enough some times.

I usually dont ever use the shop manuals(alldata in my case). I just use it to ck how much trans fluid, or what fluid type goes into stuff, or to find a part I cant find. Its rare for me to actually look up how to get something apart or whatnot. Its all a big puzzel so its got to come apart somehow lol, and if i can get it apart, I can get it back together lol.

Gotta love alldata. At college i had some free time on a break, i printed off what could be called a book.. I printed off everything to do with the motor, trans, t case, and axles. Great thing to use... Now i just gotta find it...

Lol alldata leaves alot out, like when I did my tbelt and waterpump on my Mazda. Its like take upper timing cover off, remove belt. Im like WTF??? umm there was like 30 other steps I had to do before I could even get to the belt lol.

Alldata? What is it, and where is it? Wouldn't mind taking a look at that.

Independent shops use that to look up data on cars, its like 10 cds with most of the makes and modles of cars. We have alldata online now at work. You can go to autozone and there is a free autozone alldata you can look at. Other then that i dont think ya can get it(other then payin for it)

I've got access to a pretty much comprehensive Chilton manual collection online. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you the website and login information.

It's basically a way to get technical info on a variety of cars without having to get all the service manuals. It's OK, but it's not nearly as good as the factory service manuals. But could you imagine a complete set of factory service manuals for an independent all make / all model shop? That would be hundreds of manuals at 2-3 inches thick...not viable. Thats where alldata comes in. It comes in the form of CDs, bootleg copies are readily avaiable for a couple hundred bucks.

I've got the Certified Ford shop manuals CD/DVDs for a 95 F-Series and 96 Ford Vehicles (I'm assuming all of Ford's vehicles in 96). The 95 one is a CD image, about 320mb in size. And the 96 one is a DVD and 2.9GB in size. The 96 has a more polished interface but the they've both got almost exactly the same material when it comes down to procedures and diagrams for Ford trucks.

I got one of them off of the Ford CDs.com type of website, before they got taken down. I don't recall where I got the other one.

We have been constantly reminded to use the on line manuals because they are always updated when new procedures are implemented. The "paper" and cd manuals aren't.

When I was a tech at a Chrysler dealer they (Chrysler) issued "supplements" to make additions and modifications to the paper manuals. Doesn't Ford do that too?

Nope, they dont need to with the convenience of the on line manuals. Ford techs have access to everything out there from any pc.

Hmm, but surely there was a time where Ford issued paper updates.
I have a few Ford shop manuals with the paste in updates from FORD in them.
Of course they are from the pre computer days mostly in the 1980-89 years.
