Maby a new project

Well i have been in search for another restoration project for a while now. And nothing really caught my eye. I originally wanted to buy another 78 or 9 bronco. I couldnt find one in decent shape, and im looking for something that i dont have to replace body panels (Good luck)

I also searched for a Early bronco. I had a 66 half cab that i shouldve never sold. But i cant find one in decent shape for the money, and the ones i do find are above 10K

So ever since i was a kid ive wanted a old international scout. I like the way the 78 or 79 scout II's look. I found one pretty close to me, no rust for 900 bucks. So im thinking of taking a run and bringing it home if i like it. I really like the whole removable top.

It already has a 3 inch body lift that i wont touch. I want to strip the yellow paint, paint it base clear black, with the black top. Full Roll cage and some nice tires and wheels.

The engine is a 304 V8, 727 Chrysler Trans, Dana 44 front and rear axles with 3.73 gears... Is there anyway i can stick a 351W with a 4 speed in that thing? Axles should hold up just fine to 35's but il regear to 4.56 with lockers front and rear.

I want to show this truck and win, along with playing at the dunes and have plenty of power, and mud the heck out of it!

Whats your thoughts?

Well I saw you need to choose whether you want to win shows or wheel it-- you can't realistically do both.

Cornbinders are awesome. And as you noticed...pretty cheap too. Dunno about getting a 351W and 4 sp in there...but Jeep engine conversions have always been popular in IH's...and I've seen guys squeeze 401's in there before. So space shoudln't be an issue. IH even had a 392 that they threw in the TravelAll's...pretty sure the biggest they put in a Scout was a 345 though. So it should just be a matter of fabbing it to fit properly.

As for wheeling it...and still being a show winner. Good luck with that...the sand will trash your paint...and I thought I could still mud Red and show it...it just doesn't work that way, unless you're willing to drop 1000 or so a month in repaints and touch ups.

The rest sounds good though...only thing I'd swap is the 3" BL for a suspension...just personal preference.

Naw shouldn't be an issue at all...I'm just not sure on dimensions, clearances and possible mods. It should fit no problem.

It's rare to see a factory scout engine in the vehicle it was made for...find you one of them IH 4 bangers to throw in there...that'd be cool......and rare.

edit I meant to say 4 banger diesel in my last post.......I know the 345's have quite a following for performance parts and the torque ratings are good....

Showing and wheeling can be done and ive done it before. Im not talking anything majorly insane when it comes to offroading. There are ALWAYS show winning trucks playing on the dunes.

A small diesel would be really cool in it! I just wish it was a manual.
