just a minor question here, but i just put on a new muffler a month ago and started it up, sounds like stock exhaust. but over time, it gets a rumble. present. i heard others put on new ones and they rumble from the start. (my muffler now is a magnaflow #11235 by the way) could my cats be clogged or damaged? i just want to know if any others had this problem before i cut my cats off and replace em when i dont need to. ?

I've never had that happen and I.... replaced my cat after 170,000 on the odometer. Could you possibly post a video?

well i cant uplaod a vid rite now because the only thing i can find is my sh*ty cell phone and it wont accept. but it does sound like a empty spray can....

One these trucks I think you don't really need the cats so if you don't live in an OBDI emissions county I'd say cut and replace with a piece of pipe.

You can use ur hand or a rubber mallet and hit the bottom of the cat, and you will hear if its rattling inside or not. Magnaflows are very quiet muffers, as my 5.0 stang is mega quiet with them, and no cats.

Magnaflows (and other packed style mufflers) need a break in time before they get to thier true sound. I had a magnaflow on my 93 F-150 and one on my gals 04 Ranger and they both took a few thousand miles until they broke in and reached thier true sound.

also, on the note they are quiet...the smaller the case the louder it will be, and vice versa.

well theres no rattle when i hit it. but some times my exhaust note are a beastly rumble, and some times it is just a accelarated rumble at start and idle. but anyway i checked with local laws and i dont need my cats so i might just take em both off and replace with straight pipes. or 1 off and 1 aftermarket

its a FEDERAL offense to remove the cat(s). With that said, replace it with a high-flow unit, they dont add restriction and everyone can benefiet from cleaner air.

Hey offence or not, some truck that year still came with no cats, and ontop of it, at my shop, we put new cats on and still cant get cars to get through emissions with out engine adjustments. I have tested emissions on cars with cats and without, and some of the cars without ran cleaner, yea i know, its wierd.

effectiveness doesn't change the law though - he's right. If it came with one, it needs to have one. I don't know all the rules but I bet 12000# trucks have different laws than the F150.
