lariat reform

Hi all
So I got I got my grandfathers truck . I love this thing. Its nice but has some probs. I am replaceing the heater core with a truck that has a/c. dealer installed but but its a whole dash removal deal anyway. I have had a number of parts ordered over the years that need to be put in. The biggest problem I am finding is that I cant just buy the lariat dress pannels anywhere. I am having to hand paint and refurbish what I have so i am starting this thread as a place for me to pose quiestions to those of you that have done this and as a guide to those that need to.

Looking forward to some pics. Its cool that the truck is staying in the family and you are restoring it.

the beginning

Well here is where I am now.Heater core out . Heater core in. Of course this came with dealer a/c so ripping the dash out was in store for this manuver. Wow not one of fords better designs. why couldn,t they put in an access panel somewhere.:icon_mecker: I do remember walking on to the dealers lot to see the truck with grandpa but we couldn,t take it home that day maybe that was because of the a/c who knows? I was only 12 at the time but it was the best looking truck on the lot. The worst thing about the interior is that all the silver paint evaporated and the silver leaf? or vinyl started peeling

Ya, dealer installed or Factory A/C, changing out the heater core is a Pain. At least with your restoration, taking out the dash can benefit you in that you can check things out, check wiring and clean it up or do any repairs you need to do.

Welcome to FTF. What do you mean by "Lariat dress panels"? There are some lariat badges available. The one thing I haven't found is the lariat badge that goes on the glove box door. The wood grain trim for the door and the upgraded trim around the gauge cluster is still available.

here is a pic of the trim panel that goes on the door. I need to reglue down the edge of black vinyl that has pulled away. Also there is my instrument cluster bezel . I just painted back the silver on it. Its not perfect but it looks a lot better than it did. Who carries the wood grain? I got my new door panel and they are ok but really they are just imitations of the original panels plus I have to paint the silver on them which is a taping nightmare. Does anyone know a good sourse for the carpet pad used under the carpet. I think that it is the same as door panels but I am not sure.

I think you will have to buy the whole cluster surround, which can be had for $150 at denniscarpenter.com. The silver repaint looks good.

I don't know about the door inserts. Mine were redone with cloth.

I got the padding for the carpet only to find out that the carpet kit that I bought had it. Its an ACC carpet kit and ity fits totally oem I am happy with this purchase it was made three years ago so there was no returning it if it was crap. The glove box needs some love and I will try to mask it tonight. So how rare is a 1of 1 martini report. There are so many options on these I have to believe its not so crazy rare but who knows.

The carpet on a Lariat is much more lush with a thicker sound deadener matting.

You can buy lariat stuff all over the internet.
I have a few items left.

Regarding the silver on the bezel, to restore this I use a silver photograph pen available at stationary stores.
You can buy a silver/gold combo
Or a silver only pen
No taping at all.

Chad,

Try LMC Truck for the Lariat badge for your glove box door,
and also check your door pull cups, you have the plastic ones,
like I used to have I had went to LMC Truck for my door pull cups,
They are metal versions of them instead of the chintzy plastic ones
that Ford used. LMC's website is LMC truck.com give 'em a try.

The paint pen worked great on the glove box. I also took on the sills on the doors on. I tried to clean them but no luck , there was just too much gunk. I used easy off oven cleaner and cleaned thm up lot but it removed what was left of the finish. So i said what the hell and rattle canned them with the crylon metallics

Use lacquer thinner as a cleaner and paint remover..a much better product ...outside.

So it has been a while . wish my phone took better pics.I still have one door panel to replace and yes the light switch is my starter right now. The acura developed a transmission problem that has taken my time away.but I gotta say it is a pleasure to drive this truck around with the interior done.

Chad,

The interior looks good, I have some work to do
on my interior as well on my F-150 Ranger Lariat,
the picture of your interior showed me what the speaker
grill areas on my door panels should look like. You used that
silver paint pen on them as well as your other little areas that
were supposed to be silver?

Thanks Its been decades since it looked good.Keep in mind that those are replacement panels se the grill area is close but not the same. I used a chrome silver on it krylon rattle can and taped off each raised rail. Is sucked because they were rounded and hard to tape . If you still have the originals it would be a lot easier. I only used the paint pen on the small stipping on the dash and taped and sprayed the larger ones
